VeraLite Batteries

Is it necessary to remove the batteries for normal (power cord plugged in) operation? It appears that the VerLite switches over line power when it’s available, but will the AAs keep their charge? Or should they be pulled?

The batteries in the Vera Lite are used only for hand held inclusion mode. They are not a battery backup. The Vera Lite batteries are not charged by the Vera Lite.

It is advisable to remove the batteries from your Vera Lite. It may be a long time until you next use them and the batteries may well leak in the meantime, which could damage your Vera Lite.

Remove them.

It’s easier to leave the vera plugged in while adding a device and using the UI for addition of new devices anyways. In most cases it’s NOT necessary to move the vera from it’s current location (ie 3 feet next to device). “Full power inclusion” info can be found here. http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Full_Power_Inclusion

I haven’t had to do a hand held inclusion or exclusion and the web interface seems to work fine for me. Was just wondering, but better to be safe and remove them I guess.

Yea no reason to leave them in if you never use them. Put them in your door lock and use them rather then letting them go bad inside the vera just sitting around.
