I just purchased Vera from Smarthome. The Vera hardware I received doesn’t look anything like the photo’s on the website. I’m guessing it’s a next generation Vera. There is no dongle in the box and little documentation ? Is the dongle missing or is the dongle function now built into the base unit ?
That’s interesting. I hadn’t seen any indication of new hardware here. Vera doesn’t come with much documentation as all of the help and documentation is built into the Wiki and embedded videos. Can I assume that it had Vera branding on it at least?
The Model Number is: NA401. There is no Vera logo on the white plastic case. The back panel from left to right is: Reset, ETH1, ETH2, button with tape blanked legend, USB1, USB2, Zwave button and Power.
Front panel status lights from left to right: Power, ETH1, ETH2, WiFi, ZWave, USB1, USB2 and Service.
Is this a new model? It seems so. Is the dongle now built-in or is it missing from the white OEM type box.
Thanks, I’m new to Vera, can’t you tell. I’m switching from HomeRemote Pro which has issues.
That sounds like totally different hardware than I have. I don’t see a model number on mine, but there is no z-wave status light on the device itself, just on the dongle.
Do you mind pushing a few photos of it with Front, Back and Top with perhaps a ruler somewhere nearby for scale?
I have to think you were shipped the wrong thing. Sercomm makes a product with model number NA401 - I think it’s for Zigsbee.
Here’s a photo of the back.
Here’s a photo of the front. Also, there are Vera instructions in the box.
Is there anything on the bottom of the box ? Could you take a photo of it - looks nothing like any automation controller I have run across. Time to do some research.
Is this it? http://www.slideshare.net/ericyhsu/NA401-data-sheet060108
That would be my guess - sercomm’s datasheet : http://www.sercomm.com/SWI/downloads/product/data_sheet/NA401_EN.pdf
Yes, it’s looks like the Zigbee NA-401. It’s has “white box” packaging. There is no manufacturers logo or identification on the unit or box. Inside the box is the NA-401, stand, 2 power adapters, a rechargeable power supply, Cat 5e cable and a cable to connect the power supply to the NA-401. There is a standard Vera Get Started sheet in the box. Also there is an instructional insert in the box from Vera which refers to the two power adapters and the power supply.
Looks like the power supply is 12W also, which is a bump. Let us know what version of Vera it has when you fire it up, it’s possible they’ve changed their component supplier.
The smaller footprint would definitely be handy.
Folks will be gutted, there’s no Blinking (or Solid) blue light to light up the night anymore
I hope the range on the internal Zensys/Sigma chip is long, since you cannot trundle the dongle around anymore… it mentions it has an internal antenna, so hopefully it’s got some range on it.
I’m also glad to see the 4x Port switch be gone from the unit.
There are two power adapters: One for the NA-401 and the other for the rechargeable battery pack. The adapter for the NA-401 is 12V @ 1A.
Did the Vera with Dongle have this portable battery pack ? I presume you connect the battery pack to the NA-401 with the provided cable and carry it to the sensor for paring? The product insert also refers to the MIOS Engine, tells you not to use any of the setup info on the Vera site and directs you to micasaverde.com/vera2docs for setup.
Does the NA-401 use a Dongle ?
The Vera with a dongle didn’t have a battery pack per se, but the dongle has an internal battery for use when pairing. Sounds like what you have has the z-wave radio and chip internal, so no dongle is needed. You are the first I’ve seen on these forums to get this hardware, so you probably won’t be able to get much hardware support from the members, once you get the thing up and running, you should be able to get software support.
Based on the instructions about micasaverde.com/vera2docs, it sounds like you have latest version of the software preloaded on there. It only came out this last week. If you are looking for help on these forums for it, people are referring to it as the new beta, the Flash version or UI3.
No dongle needed. It has one built in, with an antenna to go with it (according to the spec sheet). Also has the same Processor speed as the original model, but the memory/flash specs might be different.
The original also doesn’t have any sort of Battery pack. It has one power adapter. It’s basically an ASUS 500gl like this:

with one of these hanging out the back:

The MIOS stuff is the basis for their UI3.
Fire it up, we’re all dying to know
PS: Nice userId. Reminds me of the original Mac’s.
I am not sure if the NA-401 uses a dongle but this is not Vera - here is the product detail from Sercom : http://www.sercomm.com/SWI/GUI/getProductDetail.html 8)
Sercomm’s comments:
Idea home monitoring gateway platform for solution provider with the complete home monitoring needs
ie. they’re the Platform provider (HW), not the solution provider (Vera/MCV)
Nice typo’s on their site also… 8)
@Nan, btw, where did you order from?
kaldoon,
Not sure if you missed it, but he said that it had vera documentation in the box. It looks like they have changed hardware…
