Vera2 vs. 3

So been holding out for a Vera 3, but october has come and gone and still no sign.

So now I am wondering if I should just get the 2. Being new to home automation I don’t have a great handle on what all the Vera 3 will be able to do that the 2 cannot. Can anyone comment on this?

I understand the 3 will have more memory, but at what point does the 2 not have enough memory?

If you are planning on adding any more than about 50 or so Zwave devices and a bunch of other plugins, then I would say wait for the V3.

YMMV, but some people have had problems anywhere from about 40-60 devices. You can help matters by using a USB key for logging, but thats still not without its own problems.

Is the 50ish number of device mainly a memory issue?

Outside of memory/storage does anyone know yet what the vera3 will be able to do that the Vera2 cannot?

thx.

Thanks. I seem to remember reading in some press release that if you already have wifi, the vera3 can also act as a wifi ‘booster’. Can the vera2 do this as well?

It can act as an access point, which is what I think you are referring to as a “booster”.

^ yes, access point is what I mean. If it is the case the vera2 can do this, I may just pull the trigger then. Not sure waiting for the 3 will be worth it in my case. I can’t see more than 25 - 30 devices on my network.

I notice that Vera 3 is now for sale on the www.micasaverde.com site for $299. I thought I read a few months ago that there would be a “Lite” version (without WiFi). It’s not on the market yet.
