I’m new to z-wave and I have just purchased a Vera2, a Trane Thermostat and a HM-TS001 Termperature Humidity Sensor to get started. I am having difficulty getting the HM-TS001 to pair up with Vera. I have followed the setup procedure to put Vera into include mode (z-wave light blinking slowly) and when I push the activate button on the sensor the Vera’s z-wave light blinks rapidly for a second to indicate it is sensing the device. The device shows up on the dashboard and appears to configure itself. However if I go into the settings and try to poll it now I get a message saying unable to get any information on node.
When I put the HM-TS001 into mode 7 the RF reading displays 00 which tells me the device has not been given a node ID by Vera. Can anyone offer any advice to get this to work?
Thanks for the suggestion Bosston. I tried that and but it didn’t work. I have excluded the device several times and then did the include but I get the same result each time. It’s really strange because Vera seems to recognize the device and adds it to the device list when I include it but the node ID never gets written to the device. It’s hard to say where the problem is… the device or Vera… or the operator
My understanding is that you can’t poll battery operated devices, but just have to wait for them to do their thing when they wake up. Is this one different?
Ah well… I’m still learning so if that’s the case then pushing “Poll now” button under the Settings tab won’t help. I running another test where I have included the device and it now just sitting in the dashboard “Waiting for wakeup to configure”. I’ll just wait on this and see if it does configure correctly… Thanks
Well, I have repeated my testing several times… I first excluded the device, then included the device. As soon as I do the include, it shows up on the dashboard as a Temp Humidity Sensor and says “waiting for wakeup to configure”. Giving it time to do so, it does wakeup and get configured and after that I see 2 embedded sensors (1 temp & 1 humidity) on the dashboard.
However I don’t see any readings reported to the dashboard and the only clue I have is that no node ID is written to the device. If I go into the settings for the temp sensor, and push the “poll now” button, Vera returns a “Cannot send command to node” message.
So it seems that Vera does communicate to the device initially but after that I get no readings… From the reading I have been doing I should at least get temperature readings from the device with the latest version of the firmware for Vera. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
You cant poll a battery operated node… it has to wakeup at specified intervals and send its information to vera. During these wakeups it can be communicated with to configure and such as well.
Honestly I would include it… wait for it to do its configure during wakeup… and then just wait. It may take awhile to submit readings to vera… I have had that problem a few times with sensors. If it doesn’t give vera readings within a day or so then you may need more help.
There is usually a button on sensors that you can press to wakeup the node manually, then you can hit “configure node right now” after you have woken it up to force a configure while its awake. You would have to refer to your sensor documentation on how to wake it up manually though.
on that sensor you press the “celcius/ farenheit” button three times in rapid succesion to wake it up, I have configured mine that way but it’s a little touchy getting the timing right, easier to just wait, it will configure in time
Yes, thanks… I have figured out how to wake up the sensor this way. I have also just let it wake up on its own which takes about 1/2 to 1 hour and it has configured itself. I have let it sit this way for several hours now waiting for temp/humidity readings to show up on the Vera Dashboard but it’s still not happening.
I can change to mode on the sensor to RF mode 7 by pressing the set button on the device 6 times. I expect to see a node ID number in this mode but I just get 00. The manual says this means the node ID has not been written by the controller. Wouldn’t I expect to be able to see this set to a non-zero number right after doing the include procedure?
Well by coincidence I just today got this working. It was a long path. After having no luck initially, I contacted ASIHome by email where I had made the purchase. I described the problem and included a link to this thread. They told me it looked like I had tried everything they would have suggested so they sent me an RMA form.
The RMA was actually to send this directly back to HomeManageables Inc. So I sent if off and waited a few weeks. I finally called and got hold of someone in support who told me that he had had the device tested and found it to be ok. So he was concerned if he sent me another one I might have the same problem. He did agree to send back another one though when I got it, it wasn’t brand new. It looked like the one I had sent back. So I was obviously concerned I might still have the problem.
It was another two weeks before I could get back to my vacation home where the Vera system is to try to include it in the network but I got here today and I was able to include it on the first attempt.
When I first plugged the batteries in and checked the node id it was set to 01. So the first thing I did was to exclude the device with Vera. I rechecked the node id and it was reset to 00. I then did the include in Vera and checked the node id again… back to 01. Then by pressing the F/C button three times this wakes up the device and it configures in Vera. I was then able to see temperature and humidity readings.
So I can’t say for sure what changed. I followed all the same steps before without success. The difference now is I see a non-zero number for the node id. So maybe they did give me a different device or perhaps they did something in their testing that cleared out some bad state in my original device. I had previously tried to reset it many times but that had no obvious effect. But it works now and I am happy…
Hope you can reach a quicker resolution… good luck!
My Vera box does not update the temp or the humidity level automaticaly. To test it, I configured the device to send a report each minute. Vera does not update the temp. When I poll manually, Vera update the temp. If I ask to Vera to poll every 10 seconds, it never update the temp.
I just want Vera to update the temp every 5 minutes.
