Vera1 can't connect

All:

My Vera1 is unresponsive. I plugged it in after not using it for a while, and it didn’t show up in my network. It had last been set to use DHCP. I have tried twice to reflash it, first with 1.1.1245 then with 1.1.1062. Both times the reflashing seems to have worked, because after it reboots I get the correct power LED pulsing pattern and some signs of life over the network (see below), but I am still not able to connect to it.

I have a Windows XP laptop connnected directly to Port 1. The address of the laptop is set to 192.168.1.2 with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0. There is no DNS or gateway set. IE pointed to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.81.1 times out. Pings to both addresses time out. I’ve never used Wireshark before, but I tried, and after the first ping of 192.168.81.1 it returns a response with the MAC address that’s printed on the bottom of the unit.

Can anyone help me to get this thing going again?

Try setting your laptop to 192.168.81.2 and the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0.

Thanks. Looks like that did it.

I thought the address and mask looked out of whack, but I didn’t trust my instincts enough to change it.

The way I had it is the way it would be after following the otherwise excellent instructions in the Wiki for flashing a Vera1. I think the changes you suggested should be appended.

Though I was able to connect to it, it still has the problem that required troubleshooting in the first place - the automated network setting isn’t working. It never gets an address from my DHCP server, which is the newer version of the 2WIRE DSL gateway I had last time I had Vera working. I’ve had to switch to a fixed IP address for Vera, which is fine I guess, but I thought I’d post this for the benefit of anyone who might find themselves in the same situation.

@xlurk
If you set your Vera in Switch Mode it should get an address from your DHCP server and you should be able to connect to it. Have you tried that?
