Vera setup

I have just received my new vera whick looks nothing like the one on the web site. Online documentation is from MIOS and is very poor.
Vera has a euro plug and battery pack has US plus, not very helpfull in the UK
I cant connect on findvera.com
I can connect on WiFi but every option i select just gives me a blank geen box in the middle of the screen, only button that woks is the close.
Can’t tell what version of UI I have.
Not exactly the plug and play promised
On the verge of just sending it back unless anyone has any ideas.

You received one of the new Vera 2.0 hardware units. Though it looks very different, it is pretty much the same hardware. It has an internal WiFi antenna and internal Z-Wave radio, rather than the external antenna and USB dongle that the original Vera units have. It only has one LAN port instead of four, but most people only use one LAN port anyway. Nonetheless, if you would prefer the original Vera hardware instead, you can contact MiCasaVerde’s customer service department, and they will exchange it for you at no cost.

As far as the software goes… There are two different UIs for Vera. The green HTML-based UI that you were expecting to see (and that you see on all the Vera marketing material) is called “UI2” and was the default UI on the original Vera hardware. The Flash-based UI that you have on your unit is called “UI3” and is the default on the Vera 2.0 hardware. UI3 is pretty new (it only released this month) and still has some bugs and doesn’t work on certain browsers (which is why you’re seeing blank pop-up windows). Try accessing your Vera from a different web browser and see if it works better for you.

If you would prefer to have UI2 rather than UI3, that can be accomplished via a firmware upgrade. Even if you decide to stay with UI3, you should still download the latest firmware for that interface, as it contains several bug fixes. The current firmware for either interface can be downloaded by going to this forum thread:

MCV: I know you’re busy, but come on. Can’t you at least change the pictures on your home page and the product shot on your store? And the Europe/USA dongle and power mess-ups are just inexcusable.

Graham: If you have the patience and time to invest I recommend that you keep your new MIOS. It’s actually a pretty good system. It’s far from plug-and-play (marketing hype notwithstanding), but it’s fun and quite addictive once you get started.

Hi,

We will change the images in the webshop soon.

OK I am getting somewhere. Updated the firmware for UI13.
Couldn’t get vera to work without setting it to switch mode and giving it a static ip
Now from setup when I go to findvera.com and try to activate a user name and valid password I get:-

Error: PK_AccessPoint/HWKey pair doesn’t match.

@graham

Have you tried double tapping the reset button? or is it different on the new boxes? I was getting some crazy errors about the database not being there when I first updated to 1.979. I double or triple tapped the reset button and was eventually in business.

On the new vera there is a recessed reset button. Looks like you have to hold it in for a few seconds.
I have tried the reset already.
There is also another button whose description is covered up with a sticker so I don’t know what this does.

Hi,

@Graham, please send us a trouble report from Advanced / Tech support and before you do that, enable the remote assistance from the same tab and provide the remote code via email, not here.

Logs sent as ticket 1881.

:frowning:
I am getting very frustrated and not very impressed with Vera’s support. I received the Vera 2.0 and began the setup. I was prompted to download the latest firmware, which I did. I am able to connect with FindVera locally, but when I try to register with FindVera.com I get nothing but error messages. Either a simple “error”, or “cannot connect with remote access server”. I ran the troubleshooter and it says everything is ok. I sent an email trouble ticket, with no response. I called friday morning and got a person who said all the tech support people were busy and they would call me back later. She also found my trouble ticket and said they would get right on it. By late afternoon Friday, no calls. I called again but got voice mail. No call back. I called again this morning and got voice mail. Now, they are probably not open again until Monday, which is why I called on Friday, so I could finish installing everythging this weekend.

I am not a computer novice and I found the documentation lacking, especially since most of it refers to Vera 1.0.
Since Tech Support won’t help, can someone here make any suggestions? I have already reset the device to factdory defaults and restarted. Once again it prompted for the firmware upgrade. Once again, "cannot connect with remote access server.

I really like the idea of Vera, sounded ideal for my holiday home, but it just doesn’t seem like its quite ready for release yet.
I have to agree with Robert, the documentation is sadly lacking and if you look at http://docs.mios.com many pages are either empty or refer to Vera1.

Perhaps this forum should have separte sections for Vera 1 and 2 setup issues ?

Can anyone recomend any other control units that don’t require a PC to run? I don’t want to do anything complicated just check a camera, turn lights and a watering system on and off

I don’t know if this is relevant to my problem registering with findvera.com but if I go to findvera.com I get:-

No Vera’s found on your local network

No sure if this is because I haven’t been able to register or why I haven’t been able to register

@Graham
I too am getting that message. When I go to Findvera.com in the UI, it brings up a blank window titled Findvera.com. I am guessing that is part of the problem. I wonder if there are specific ports that need to be opened on the network in order to allow Vera to communicate with findvera.com?

I did the troubleshoot network test and thought this was interesting and might explain why we are not able to configure Findvera.com

I could be wrong, but shouldn’t it be looking for RA1.FINDVERA.COM

ra.findvera.com is the dns name used by most of the find vera site.

It should be RA.FINDVERA.COM here’s mine:

I opened up a ticket, so we’ll see what they say. Is there a port or setting on my firewall that I need to open or change?
