Vera Plus migrated from Vera Lite - Battery operated devices not working

The migration from Vera Lite to Vera Plus appeared to go well - all of my devices are listed.

For battery operated devices, like motion sensors, they show up and have a reasonable battery number, but they do not register changes. They never trip on motion, for instance (although I can see the light blink on the device, so I know the device itself is seeing it). I have 3 different brand motion sensors and they are all not registering motion, so it seems to be a system-wide issue.

I know the battery powered devices not working issue was listed in at least one other thread as well. So heads up to those migrating.

I submitted a ticket with support.

Jason

I thought the migration instructions said that for battery devices you have to either wait for a sync, or manually force one by pulling the battery and putting it back in for it to get updated to the new master… ( #12 here: http://support.getvera.com/customer/portal/articles/1840697-upgrade-from-ui7-on-veralite-or-vera-3 )

Good point. I pulled the batteries on a few of them, waited 10 minutes, and no difference. They still don’t work.

I migrated from a vera edge to the vera plus and had exactly the same issue. I was told by support I should have backed the edge and just restored this on the plus.

I suggest you do a factory reset on the plus and just use your backup. Worked for me.

To be blunt, I’m going to be a little pissed if that is what I have to do in the end. Per other posts on the forum, and Vera’s documentation, I did the migration like the guide shows.

Although maybe that is the right migration going from an Edge to a Plus… Maybe Going from a Lite to a Plus the guide is still the correct way? Who knows…

I’ll just wait and see what support says.

I’ve manually unpaired and readded a few of them. They work after doing that.

So I may just do that with the rest of them tomorrow.

I was able to upgrade from the edge to the plus by just backing up the Edge and restoring to the Plus. I doubt this would have worked from a lite to the plus though as I believe the z wave chips are not the same. The edge and plus have the newer zwave plus chip, which is why the additional steps in copying from primary controller are needed.

It would have been nice for Vera to have the procedures all ready for us on launch, but i understand since it was the preorder.

I was able to get mine working using the following voodoo magic strategy for each battery powered device:

  1. Go to Settings for a battery powered device.
  2. Change Automatically Configure to yes
This will cause Vera to Reload
  3. While it’s reloading I play with the battery powered device … getting Vera to notice it.
  4. About a minute later it’s configured.

It would be nice if MCV posted the absolute correct strategy.

I’ve un-paired/re-paired all of my battery devices except my water sensor in the attic at this point. It is a pain to get to, so it will simply have to wait for now.

Since I only had a dozen or so battery operated devices this was doable. I feel for people with a lot of battery operated devices, though… I did try the auto configure / wake device route last night and it didn’t work for me. But maybe I didn’t wake it at the right time?

I also wanted to point out that my report was technically incorrect. My Schlage door locks are battery powered, and they all migrated and worked with no issues/re-pairing. Granted they are secure, etc, so are a little different than the generic battery operated devices.

Last night I migrated from a Lite to the Plus. All my apps and most devises work. However, I have 9 battery door and motion sensors and only one motion worked. Today done of the battery devices work. I hope a simple fix is found…

Just save yourself headache and manually remove readd them and be done with it. If there are only 9 of them it won’t take THAT long.

It is a pain, but I wanted a working system and didn’t feel like waiting an undefined amount of time for support.

Thanks. I was more worried about PLEG settings than the device remove/add, but that’s what I did and everything is working now.

How did you overcome the PLEG issues after removing /adding the devices?

If you delete a device that PLEG has a trigger on … It will delete the input trigger when you try yo edit the PLEG device.
You will have to recreate the trigger pointing to the new device, use the same name as before.

And if your unlucky like some of us and you changes don’t stick when you correct PLEG, wait 5-10 minutes before reloading after you save the changes. VeraAlerts as well.

So I had the same issue upgrading / migrating from Vera3 to VeraPlus… battery powered devices unresponsive. I just tried your technique and now I have all 8 with red flagged “Waiting for wakeup to configure device”. Hoping they wake up and work  .

I took a screen capture of my triggers so I could add them back after adding the device back; did it one at a time.
