I am at my wits end with my Vera in terms of stability issues. I have for awhile had the issue where it does a reload and I get notified of it. Nothing ever is really affected by it, but it is annoying to see that stability issue.
Now I have an issue where the whole unit is frozen to the point where the orange light is off and the unit is inaccessible. I contacted support. They said my memory looked low and I should try uninstalling some unused apps. Well all of my apps are used, but they did mention certain apps have been known to cause stability issues, specifically dataMine. So I uninstalled dataMine.
I thought I had the problem licked, but then the unit was frozen again 2 days later. I rebooted it and logged in to see dataMine back. I have no clue how it got back there. I uninstalled it and had stability for about 3 days. Now I just woke up again and the unit was frozen (no orange light on).
So… has anyone else run into this? If so, how did you fix it? I am at the point now where I am almost ready to do a full rebuild, but I have SO MUCH TIME invested into configuration that I do not want to go through a full reconfiguration again. What are my options?!
There are many posts regarding similar issues as yours. Some as recent in the last few days. Have you looked over the forum? There are many suggestions and ways to figure it out. The first thing is to list all of your plug-ins and your memory consumption. But I highly suggest you rummage through the forum with similar topics.
I’m only adding to Garrett’s great advice in saying that I have been using DataMine for over 6 months with no memory issues, so it could possibly be a combination of plugins and/or specific code you are using (e.g. Luup, PLEG, etc).
The more detail you provide, the more suggestions you may get.
I have looked through the forum, but have not seen anything that looks to be the same issues I am running into. I have seen the issues with the random reloads. I’d be happy to troubleshoot that, but I don’t think that is my issue at this point.
My gut feeling is that there is a memory leak occurring somewhere.
No one has reported that their orange light that is normally on under normal operation just is off and the whole unit is frozen. At least not from the posts I have read. Have you seen that in other posts?
The previous post are correct about the number of recent post relating to other post. More importantly, it does not need to be the same as you described for two reasons:
Everyone has their own method describe what they believe the problem they are encounter, and
You are looking for the method or approach to how they investigated the issues to establish the root cause and how they fixed it.
I a lot of cases the problems are detailed differently but the underlying issues are either the same or similar.
In your case, this may sound like we could introduce another problem by including a new app but I would look at Event Viewer to provide a snapshot of the current system performance and utilisation. This can be combined with dataMine to track overtime.
You may wish to also detail what the app installed and include version as there has been a number of maintenance induced failures that resulted in other issues such as reoccurring restarts with a number of apps recently.
The other point is defining the circumstances around or leading up to the freezing. Connection, for example a direct connect to a Vera 3 either through wifi or directly connected to one it it’s LAN ports will provided differing results to WAN connected Vera 3. This maybe a little harder to describe because of the connection because your noticing the problem exist because you have been notified of a restart which maybe what you need to hunt down in the first place… Such as recent issues surround a released version of an app that was posted a number of times on the forum.
I am not sure exactly what had been causing the issue previously, but ever since I changed out my USB thumb drive to a different one with more capacity, I have been better off. I haven’t seen a random reboot in some time.
Now, I tried formatting the other USB drive prior to swapping it out, so I don’t think it was an out of space issue.
I just thought I’d update everyone on here as to what might have fixed it for me.
