vera interfering with 3rd-party wireless security system

Ive just discoverd that my home wireless alarm system (that is 15 years old) does not work properly when my veralite is powered up.
through process of elimination, it appears that when vera is active it prevents one of my home security sensors communicating with the master controller (house alarm)
How can i resolved this issue. I dont know where to start looking but assume there is some kind of conflict with the two different wireless systerms. When i move the problem sensor nearer to its controller it works. if i swap it with another sensor the fault lies on where the sensor is positioned rather than the sensor itself.
i dont know much about what wireless system the house alarm uses so can answer any questions about that. Might be time for a new house alarm if i could integrate to my vera system.

First things first- did you try replacing the battery in the wireless sensor?

What is the make and model of the alarm system? Do you know how to program it and/or have the installer code? Also does the alarm still have alarm service hooked up to it?

If so, it might be possible to work around that broken sensor with a different wireless system. That would involve reprogramming the alarm to move the affected wireless device into one of the panel’s hardwired zones, then using a different manufacturer’s wireless tech to get the signal across (something that won’t be interfered with by Z-Wave).

For example, the Visonic WR200 receiver and WT301 magnetic contact transmitter might fit the bill perfectly (available on Smarthome). It operates (from what I can tell) in the 400MHz band, which is way far away from Z-Wave’s 900MHz.

sounds like the controller is far enough away that it’s signal is being effected by the cross talk among systems, if they are both z-wave, try putting another light fixture or something from the alarm system closer to the failed controller to decrease the distance needed to transmit
