I’m trying to set a brand new Vera 2 but can’t get past the first step reliably. I’ve plugged it directly into the cable modem as well as into my router but don’t always see the Vera WiFi network on my laptop – sometimes it’s there, sometimes it’s not. When it is there I can get to the http://2.168.81.1 page for a while but then the connection is dropped.
Any suggestions?
Also, I got a Fortrezza moisture detector to test this system with, it starts buzzing as soon as Iput the battery in and never stops! Yeesh…
When you power on the unit, do you have the cables already plugged into the unit and to the router or cable modem? Can you try and power the unit on without the network cable plugged into the router or cable modem and once the lights are all lit up then plug the cable into the port? I found that if I power on my unit and then plug the network cable into my network switch once the proper lights are lit, I then do not run into any network issues.
When you are able to get into the unit, is your zwave module working or does it report that no zwave device can be found? Have you also tried doing an update on the unit?
Once you have the Vera networked it may not respond to 192.168.83.1 Just go to either http://www.micasaverde.com/vera2 and it will find it for you or MiOS to use it locally or remotely.
If all that fails make sure you have the modem in Vera’s eth1 port and the router in eth2. or better yet put the modem into the wan port of the router and Vera’s eth1 to an eth port on the router.
I’ve tried every combination of network cables I can think of. If I start it up with nothing connected it’s WiFi network should still be activated, correct? It doesn’t appear in my PC WiFi list or on my iPhone list. I would think you’d be able to connect to the Vera network even if the it isn’t connected to the modem.
I’ll try letting it finish booting before connecting to the modem.
I think maybe there is a bad batch or something. I had the same problem yesterday, I had tech support look at it for me and they said to get an RMA and send it back. MiCasa are sending me out a replacement today.
I made some progress last night. I can now connect to it and ran the firmware update. As suggested I waited until the lights stopped blinking before plugging in the network cable.
Have you resolved the buzzing problem with FortrezZ sensor? I believe it’s due to depleted or slightly-incompatible batteries. I’m trying to find a reliable source of known good replacement batteries for FortrezZ sensors (short of placing a phone order to the place recommended by FortrezZ themselves)
