I am using Vera Android app on my Nexus 5 (Android 6.0.1).
For ome reason, the app is consuming amount of data every day which is killing my data account.
I have uninstalled the app, however since yesterday the Vera app itself has consumed 2GB of data in one day!
I have 3 ip cameras connected to the Vera.
I am also using the geofence.
I have the same phone and can only confirm that with the last update the data use exploded. For me it used 200MB in 10 days and I barely had it open. Something is not good with the last version. The most concerning is that the data use over Wifi is much less than via mobile, more then ten times less in my case.
Vera, please look at this issue. I’ll open a trouble ticket as well.
Same issue noted here. It consumed over 4Gig of my allowance over a 2 week period!!
I ended up disabling background data for the app within the data usage settings on my Galaxy S7. That fixed the problem with no noticeable side effects.
Hmm. I just checked my LG V10. The Vera Mobile app (latest beta) consumer 253MB over a 12 day period. Out of 307MB consumed total.
I only use it for the Geofencing function and notifications so that’s quite a lot of data. Luckily I have a ‘unlimited data’ plan. I checked history and this data hogging started in the April/May billing cycle. Before that it was only about 10MB a biling cycle with same usage type.
Updated: I posted a thread on the Vera Android app beta groups to bring it to the devs attention.
Anybody on the iOS or Windows platforms experiencing this behaviour?
The data rate is going to be a function of the activity your Vera is encountering.
The App has a polling loop that use very little data … if Vera has been idle … But if you have things happening on your Vera … each and every change gets transmitted.
If you have energy monitoring devices … these generate a LOT of data changes that need to be replicated from Vera to the Remote apps.
I reported the issue with Vera and they acknowledged they are aware and working it. I am not sure it is geofence causing it. My better half has the app installed just for the geofence. She never opens it and data usage is normal. She does have Android 5 something. I see very high usage, but I occasionally look at the app (once, twice a day) on my Andriod 6 phone. Even for days I do not look at the app background usage seems high.
I do have one camera setup in my VeraEdge, do others that see high usage have camera’s too?
Sure hope they fix it soon and release the fix soon too rather than waiting to change a lot of other stuff too and sit on it for months.

I have six cameras and always have. I was thinking the geo-fence might be the culprit because it is the only thing I changed. Hope the fix is not to far off.

I added a couple of cameras before I noticed the high data usage. Today, I removed the cameras and reinstalled the app on my Droid. I’ll monitor the data usege to see if it’s gone back to normal and report back what I find.
I disabled background data for the Vera App for a few days but then geofencing stopped working properly. So enabled background data again, but never opened the app. Geofence is working, and zero mobile data is used. I only use ImperiHome until I know this issue is fixed.
I upgraded the Vera 3 the apps connected to last night to the new firmware. Data used on my phone then was 874MB for the app. It’s now (about 20 hours later) at 877MB for the app with no other changes made. looks promessing but I’ll keep monitoring it over the weekend…
