Hello all. I am about to start setting up some HA and have been looking at Z wave kit. However some of the X10 stuff available in Aus (like the light socket DIY etc…) Appeal to me alot.
What I need to know is if I buy a Vera and some Z Wave kit, how (in Australia) can I get the X10 stuff intergrated. Utimately I am going to buy as much as I can as Z wave gear, so my sensors etc… will be all Z wave, but I would like to be able to trigger X10 lights, is that possible with the Vera?
The transmitter that people mention alot around here (the Insteon one) I dont think is available in Aus. Is there an alternative I could use?
Welcome. Your correct, Insteon is not available in Australia. I haven’t tried it with X10 but have a lyon may be able to achieve utilizing the RFXCOM USB device and plugin but I am not certain. If time permits, I will try to set something up when I get home in the few days but I can not guarantee that I will get the time.
Are you looking at anything other than Z-wave and x10 equipment? There are several other options which include alarm integration which may offset the cost of z-wave sensors.
Thanks for replying. Apparentlty I can get a CM12 and plug it in to the Vera3 to control the X10 stuff.
At this stage I am looking at X10 and Zwave because that is what is readily available here in Aus. And I can start setting it up at a cost that I am happy with
Any other suggestions on what kit I can use? X10 and Zwave are well within my expertise limits (and I have an Electritian friend in mind who may be willing to do in wall hookups at mates rates), so any other suggestions cannot be above that level of fitting difficulty.
Also I have to be able to program all the controls, half the reason I wanna do this is cause I like that kind of thing
I had totally missed that thread. I have some old X10 stuff that I might give a go when time permits just for the fun of it.
You correct, the CM12A is basically the same as the CM11 expect there were differences between US and AU X10 version other then voltage. The main thing is the serial driver but you’ll find this out straight away. Doesn’t hurt to try.
I understand budget constraints are always a limiting factor; especially with the cost of products here in Australia. You may also look at dual Z-wave switches as one method to reduce costs. Have a look at ZWave.com.au. I also believe Fibaro have dual but they are only in the process of setting up distribution in Australia but you can investigate their range at Domótica - Cas Inteligente - Smart home | FIBARO to find details on there products click on support.
I have not used any of the dual switches but they could result in significant saving overall and they will be one my list as a consideration for future procurement activities.
