Vera and Multiple Homes/Accounts

Hi All,

Okay, so I have allot going on in my mind tonight trying to decipher the mysterious and confusing nature of z-wave technology.

To get to my first question, I should let you know that I have spent weeks looking for a z-wave solution that will allow me to remotely manage multiple homes/condo locations which my management company…manages.

What I have found is that it seems as though there’s been a major oversight when all of the developers/companies create their own solution to z-wave technology and home automation. The oversight is that all products/solutions are geared towards a single consumer and not markets such as mine. Our interest in z-wave started with Schlage LiNK which is at the core of our integration goals.
But we wont pay 12.99/Month per Property (Schlages online service does not allow mulitiple home locations one a single account)

I have also spoken to hawking, they can do what I want as far as a “portal” solutiion (mentioned below) but again, the cost is about 12.99/Month per unit. I can find their gateway for $100.00 which is much cheaper than the Vera but I do recognize the limited and locked details of hawkings product.

What this industry essentially needs is a complete solution to manage multiple units or home locations, not just a single home.

My company’s goal is to have a portal that shows all 100 properties (Maybe laid out in category view with an image of the house, the address, its connection status, etc) From there I can centrally manage all of our properties instead of being forced to log into each (vera) independently (seperate accounts, IP’s etc.).

So I just want to ask all of you if you know of any other solutions which might help with my specific requirement.

And my second question is if Vera (or any other solutions) allow 3rd parties to integrate directly with the gateway?

My company uses a large property management program which is ASP based and they are considerate in working with us to add this functionality into their software. Is this at all possible? If so, I can gurantee that it would bring a substantial increase in vera sales as this is a much needed component.

Lastly, why can’t a z-wave bridge be made that just forwards, or points to a externally hosted server which a client can run in-house?

Thank you in advance for helping me out, I’m hoping to learn/hear something I didnt know!

J

Vera is, basically, wide open. So if you’re a technical guy, particularly one who knows Linux, you can login and do anything with it. There’s a plugin architecture too that gives you full access to the API, and you can make plugins in Lua.

hi - i am very much interested in the exact application that the original poster asked about here. not being a tech guy i am wondering is there more information about this available? in other words, i wish to be able to view and control multiple locations without having to log in/out from the website with a different password and username for each location. is this indeed possible? if it is not, will it ever be?

thanks in advance for your reply!

This question (below, not the OP’s) has been asked and answered before somewhere, I will see if I can find the original thread. Micasaverde can link the Vera’s so you can log in and see all of them under one account. This is what brought me to use Vera over anything else out there at the time. My final system will have over 20 of them linked this way (I haven’t had any linked yet, I am about a week away from that, I just ordered 3 more Vera’s). I am also very interested in the OP’s solution as I am on the board for a resort with many buildings and units and would love to integrate into a property management solution, maybe if there are enough of us we could go together and have something developed along these lines. One of the limitations I am running into with the Link’s is the 19 code limitation and maintaining strict audit control.

Here is that other thread discussing multiple Vera’s on one account.
