im still trying to figure out what kind of security system i should get and so far im thinking about going with vera2, will the FI8905W let me see live video over a browser using vera 2? and does this camera have motion alarm that will send me a email with a live still image that will work with vera 2? also how is the image quality? thanks for any help i appreciate it.
The Foscam’s will send you email on motion detect and will allow you to see the camera directly through the internet if you have your router configured properly. I have some info on setting this up on my blog site at ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com. So I don’t know why you would want to watch it via a Vera2.
This is an outdoor model and outdoors anything will trigger a motion detect event, a shadow, car headlights, a squirrel, a slight breaze so I personally would not want an email sent everytime this happens, you’ll be getting many per day. Indoors it’s not so bad, maybe a few false alarms per month. I use PIR motion detect on a different brand of camera as this has proven to be 100% accurate for me.
@buellwinkle Is the 2.1mm lens you used compatible with 8918 too? And what brand does PIR so well?
Speaking of port forwarding, I’m not sure how hard or easy is to hack the credentials of the camera (I don’t think it’s hard when camera is sitting behind consumer router); with unprotected access there’s a good chance you’ll setup a reality show for people out there.
When I find some time (sigh…) I’ll try to setup a manual port knocking:
- type your domain:port1
- type your domain:port2 (within 10 seconds of the first one above)
- get 15 min access to camera sitting on your domain:port3
