Vera 1 (dongle) to Vera 3 upgrade

I found instructions concerning upgrading from Vera 1 to 3.

My question is: Do I have to upgrade my vera 1 to UI5 before doing this backup and restore???

UI5 will not work on Vera 1.

This did not work at all. I had to exclude everything from the dongle and then include with Vera 3.

I’m trying to do this upgrade also and it doesn’t seem to work following that procedure.

I put my Vera 1 dongle into the Vera 3 and got it to see the devices (although it seemed to be having trouble with my Schlage lock). I then backed up the network and did a backup. Pulled the dongle and set to /dev/ttyS0 and performed a restore. After the restore it had switched back to /dev/ttyUSB0 so I changed it back again. I then saw it going through restoring the zwave network in the status window. After that completes it just doesn’t see any of my devices. Not sure what to try at this point, except to forget about trying to restore them and just start over.

I’m planning my upgrade this weekend!
Any solution for moving the network, or are we to manually move the devices?

Thank you.

I am planning to shutdown my Vera 1, then power-up Vera 3 and go around a included all my devices again. Do I need to exclude my devices from Vera 1 before including them on Vera 3?

I have successfully switched from Vera 1 to Vera 3. Based on forum comments that some folks had issues trying to backup and restore to Vera 3, I decided to excluded all my devices on Vera 1 and start with a new install by including devices on Vera 3. I figured this would save me time in the long run and reduce troubleshoting efforts.

I discovered that I had to exclude all my Z-Wave devices from Vera 1 dongle. If I did not, they would not pair with Vera 3. I removed the dongle from Vera 1, held the button down for 3 seconds until fast blinking started (excluded mode) and then pushed button on light switch. The dongle stopped blinking and went to solid indicating the excluded was successful. I did this for each device until all devices were excluded. Please note Trane thermostat has a option in its menu to active exclude that must be used with dongle.

I have a 2500 sqr ft ranch and was surprised that I was able to pair switches and thermostats that were over 30 feet away. Vera 3 is almost in the center of the house and I did not have to move it to pair each device which made things go a little faster. I was able to add devices using the web interface and did not need to toggle the z-wave button on the front of Vera 3.

Please feel free to ask any questions as I personally find the forums very helpful and helps save me time.

My Vera 1 has been running for over 3 years without any problems. Always works and reliable to control my house heating, door locks and lights. I hope Vera 3 is the same. I decided to upgrade to ensure supportability of future products.
