Venturing to Alarm project , or not?

New to this forum, and looking for some expert advice.

I currently have active service with ADT. It appears I have a SAFEWATCH PRO 3000EN.
I also see HONEYWELL 5881EN series label on the panel. My vera edge and the ADT equipment are in the same closet. I have cellular monitoring service, as ADT did not work with Vonage, at least 2 years ago when installed.

I also have PULSE, which works reliably, but I really have no desire to expand that, as they really tie your hands as to what you can add.

So, I have a few beginner questions:

  1. Is the equipment above, a candidate for the AD2USB device and App?
  2. If so, can active Pulse service co exist with the vera USB connection?
  3. Is there a getting started guide for this that I overlooked?

Thanks in advance!

Yes the SAFEWATCH PRO 3000EN is a dumbed down version of the vista 20p and works with ad2usb. the 5581en is just the wireless receiver. to install the ad2usb you need the installer code (which your installer/ADT has) or have ADT install it for you. How willing or happy they will be I have no idea.

It can work with pulse but I’m not sue why you would want both. Pulse is the monthly service equivalent to VERA that is free. Most people scrap the monthly fees and use vera only along with maybe a 10.00 a month monitoring serivce. ADT usually has 40 to 60.00 a month service charges.

@ integlikewhoa - Great info, thanks. Agreed, I want to get away from paying extra for pulse, but I do like their camera, and included storage.

It is very easy to use the ADT pulse cameras. Do you happen to know how robust camera features on Vera have been ? I have read about blueIris, but not up to speed yet at all on that.

I only use BLUE Iris. VERA does not have storage or the power to display cameras at a live frame rate. It displays 1-3 sec intervals so its real jumpy. I never recommend VERA as the primary way to display cameras, but some like how its all in one app and it does provide a quick glace view. If I see someone or want a better view I quickly close vera app and open blueiris. Plus recordings and everything are all accessible and laidout good.

Alot of this depends on what you plan on doing and what cameras you have, along with what vera app are you going to use… IP cameras like in a vera APP called Imperihome for andriod can be displayed in the app but not run threw vera. So the app will display a live stream fast going directly to the camera vs. having vera pull the image, then pass it threw to the app. The bog down is VERA. But even this doesn’t give you previous recordings and such. Just a good live view.

Having cameras tied into to vera threw BI for me makes them an instant motion detector. No most ip cameras can email you if there is motion, but what about if there is motion and your home or not home. Now with vera playing the middle man you can have vera watch for motion but only send you a notification if your away. Turn on an outside light if the camera see motion. And so on. So I use the cameras with the BlueIris plugin for this but I view live threw other means vs. watching the stream in vera.

Cameras Cost around 100 bucks these days. I only use wired POE IP cameras now a days and prefer currently hikvisions, but I had started out with Foscam wireless. They had alot of features for 100.00 bucks turned to junk fast. I take less features now for the same price and better camera.

Interesting, I awoke in the middle of the night last night (somehow , often , solutions just come in my sleep) and I thought the reason my vera alerts keep repeating and cutting off must be related to installing a camera through vera, and playing the feed to imperihome, running on my hp slate 21 over wireless . In reading your post this morning, I believe the camera has overburdened the wireless and the slates ability to smoothly process the TTS alerts.

Based on your suggestion, I will remove the camera from vera, and try direct with Imperihome. I did not have much luck last time in setting up direct with Imperihome, but maybe with the recent updates Imperihome released, I will have more luck.

Do you happen to recall a getting started guide for setting up my 3000EN on AD2USB, and any tips on how you went about obtaining your installer code?

Many thanks

Imperihome camera direct setup has not changed. It depends on the camera more then anything else. you need to know the http or web address used to get both a still and a live picture. Every camera is different and different security also effects that.

I have a caddx alarm and I bought it new. So it was all default.

At alarmdecoder we sell a module for our keypad software that works along with our AD2 product to obtain your installer code. Alternatively, you can power down your alarm (battery included) and upon powering up the alarm, hold down the * and # keys, this will get you into programming mode (provided it has not been locked out by your provider) - then you can do a #20 to get your installer code.
