Venstar T5800 ?

I’ve been looking at the Venstar T5800 tstat because it has a big, fancy color LCD. It is WiFi and cloud-enabled (with the WiFi key), allowing you to control it from your phone and all that. I didn’t see a plug-in for it though. Does anyone have any experience talking to the Venstar stuff over the web interface? Is it going to be straightforward like the 3M units, or locked down like the Ecobees?

Should I just give up and go get a 3M-50 (or, now CT-80) that just works?

I expect to have an open source plugin for the ecobee thermostat implemented pretty soon. I powered one up last night and I think it looks like a pretty nice device. Why do you say that it is “locked down?”

I read some info here and in the homeseer board that suggested that there was no official api for ecobee. But based on the other thread here, it sounds like they have just released that, so that’s a good step.

I’ve just received the T5800, and it is terrific (I am ordering four more). The web interface is relatively easy to program to in Homeseer, and the documentation on the Venstar site is clear. If you know how to code in Homeseer (Visual Basic or ASP) or in other languages where it is easy to POST and retrieve info from web pages, you’ll have no problem in controlling the T5800 - the interface is completely open.

Hope this is helpful …
