Hi: Does anyone know how[ what and where ] to change the variables on the GE Dimmer switch in UI 7?
I did it in UI 5 but the fields are different in UI 7.
I’ll attach a picture of what the UI 5 fields looked like.
I want the bulbs to ramp full on and off.
I’m using Phillips LED bulbs.
Thank you.
It’s the same as before but with more green and less blue in the background.
click on the device like before,
Heres the big one click on “device settings” instead of “device options”
then click add configuration settings.
Do the same as before.
Yes, thank you.
But what field do I amend.
They are not exactly the same.
What do you mean? You click add and fill them out just like before. When you start they will all be blank. You need to add each of those lines.
I’m sorry perhaps I’m not explaining myself clearly.
The fields from UI5 do not match the fields in UI 7.
I don’t know what values to enter in what fields to make the switch ramp up and down to 100% instantly.
Thank you.

the fields are blank until you add them, same as in ui5.
You need to find out (per your instructions) which byte you need to change and what the value you change it to.
You can copy what you had in your picture.
You fill in the blanks!
Please forgive me but that is the information I need.
Which byte you need to change and what the value you change it to.

That information is in the ge switch manual, it has nothing to do with ui5 or ui7 or even a vera vs. Another box.
Which model number do you have?
Is that your picture from before? Use the same numbers if it is.
Please see instructions from GE attached.
Yes that is the picture of UI 5.
I don’t know what values and what ecact fields to enter in UI 7.
Thank you.
I sort of figured it out but the values don’t work as well as they did in UI 5.
The screen attached does not appear unless you allow automatically configure.
Thank you all for your help and I’m sorry I was such a pest.
Is it all working like you want now?
Thank you for asking.
Well in a way yes, but the lights are ramping on and off as fast as they did with UI 5.
With UI 5 it was instant.
I guess I’ll have to experiment with the variables more.
I wish I understood them a little better.
I’ll learn!

Ok I just looked at the instructions you posted.
Think of it this way.
You have a two story house and you have a set of stairs. It’s say 10ft from bottom floor to top floor.
#7 and #9 are how many steps you have from 1st to 2nd floor. The lower the number of steps the the taller each step is. So if you had only 2 steps from 100% (on) down to 0% (Off) It wouldn’t fade very well and would go from 100 to 0 fast. It would go from 100 to 50 to 0. If you increase the number of steps to say 100. then it fades 100-99-98-97… Much smoother and slower.
#8 and #10 are simply the speed at which you go down the steps. Are you running or walking threw each step. Now the instructions give no indication off if the higher number is fast or slower. So I don’t have that answer for you. But if I had to guess the higher the number the faster it fades.
and I guess you know the difference between #7 and #9 is one is when you turn the switch on from the wall switch manually and one is when you send the command from vera to the switch. So in a scene or using the vera app.
I’m thinking your gonna want #7 and #9 to be the same and #8 and #10 to be the same. But it gives you the option.
Also in your last picture, it doesn’t look like vera has taken the save yet. The current column on the right was blank, hopefully it’s still not that way or nothing might have changed. Make sure a save, luup reload and page refresh if that hasn’t changed.
Also If my guess is right in your last picture you are setting 8 and 10 to the slowest speed possible (#1). If you want faster I would change those two to something like 50 or 100 and test. Then change again to find the speed you like.
You sir must be a Teacher.
You spoke to me in terms I am more familiar with.
Real physical things.
Changed variable 7 and 9 to a value of 1 and instant on/off!
Exactly what I wanted.
I guess my values were off on UI 5[old system]
Thank you so much.
You have made that little bulb above my head go, and off instantly!
Thank you again.

Glad I could help.
But you do know I’m still curious on the speed, so I guess I better test on my own switches tonight. I do have several of these switches but have never changed them from default settings. Maybe I’ll set them to super slow just to watch the wife hit the off switch several times.
Once again a million thanks.
Is funny you mention wife.
My girlfriend was kind of breaking my horns by “showing” me how a conventional toggle switch is instant on and off.
Naturally I failed to see the humor in her statement. It only motivated me more.
Now that the switch is solved I think I’ll work on the lead to gold thing.
Thank you so much.
Oh, are you a Teacher?

No quiet the opposite, but my wife does teach high school math.
You should hear me explaining electricity (watt’s and amps) to her like water flowing threw different size pipes. LOL
That’s exactly how I would understand it!
Thank you again.
