Using Global Cache GC-100 with SQ Remote

I have been having a hell of a time setting up IR devices in UI4. I’m running 1093 BTW and MCV is telling me they have a fix for the timer issue. For now that is my primary concern but at some point I need to get the remote working. Ever since UI4 I have not been able to get this thing to work. I can load the plug-in and test the commands, but once saved then nothing happens once I build the SQ remote and bind the commands to the soft buttons. Its difficult to say whether this is because of 1093 or there is some other underlying issue nevertheless it is very annoying. I’d like to keep this thread open and have anyone with any experience with GC-100 series post their comments with regards to setting up IR and RS232 devices. I realize that is the function of the wiki, but I don’t think I’m the only one who finds the wiki on for this product useless due to lack of structure.

Thanks,

How did you bind the commands to the soft buttons in SQRemote?
I load the plug-in and test the commands, I can see the device in SQRemoto but there is not command to select
I am trying to bind AppleTV and Samsung Led TV

John is the expert in this… I’ll get him to post a response.

I’m sorry I should have used sq remote terminology so I don’t cause any confusion. By binding I meant “Assign” commands. To do that you’d have to have the device added on Vera first. You then add a control pad from the setup in the Sq Remote App on your ipod/ipad. That is of course after you’ve established the connection between Vera and Sq Remote through setup. Next you need o add a control pad for the device you loaded on Vera. You then open the pad and add what Sq Remote call “Controls” although at this point they are nothing more than a soft button with no attribute, which is why you have to assign function to the button. The problem I’ve encountered is that you can add the device in Vera and not see it in Sq Remote app which can be frustrating. At this point the only solution I know is to remove the device from Vera and add it again. I can’t tell you how many times you have to repeat this process but at some point it will show up. Another problem that I have ran into is that even when I see the command and assign it to a button and test during the process, it fails to function once the process has been completed.

krfar described this quite well… the list of commands (IR commands for the media device) is suppled by Vera to SQ Remote. If these are not published by Vera then they will not be “discovered”. Be sure to make sure that the option “Update Media Devices” is ON in the settings area for your MiOS/Vera system within SQ REMOTE (Setup>MiOS Systems and Devices > Edit MiOS Unit Settings).

There is a known issue that if you try and connect to MiOS BEFORE it has finished installing everything, then the commands do not come through. Try deleting and reinstalling the device and commands - then wait several minutes before switching SQ Remote ON. Note you will need to switch it off… not just send it to the background if you are using iOS4+. to do this close it as normal then double tap the home button on your iOS device… you will get a list of devices that are open, you can close these by pressing and holding one of the icons… unitl they show the delete sign, then select the ones that you want to close…

Once you have updated the devices in SQ Remote - remember to set “Update Media Devices” to OFF for your MiOS device, otherwise the startup of your SQ Remote may become quite slow if you have multiple media devices.

Thanks every one, my problem was the luup plugin file for AppleTV did not download, I did one file by myself, I uploaded that and now I am able to control my appleTV from SQRemote

Vera is still tying to download the plugin

Thanks for the info John. Any idea why Sq Remote fails to function if buttons have been assigned and function during the setup process?

Thanks,

@krfar

Sorry x-mas has got in the way of many things… so my response is delayed… I am not 100% clear what you mean here… can you be a little more specific on the “setup process”?

I understand, obviously I’ve been busy myself as well. But to answer your question, first and foremost let me just say that I had the GC100 running with Vera1. I then upgraded to Vera2 depending on what you’d consider upgrade. Unfortunately GC100 had to be sent back due to a firmware issue before I could get it to work with Vera2. Anyhow, I can add the GC100 from the Mios marketplace. I add an IR device, a Rcvr for example and test the on/off function as well as couple of others while in the setup screen and everything works. I then save the setting and then configure the Sq remote app on an iPod including assigning an on/off command for example to a soft button on the remote. I exit the edit screen and press the on/off button and nothing happens. Otherwise I cannot get the emitter to function once I exit from the test screen during the setup process in Vera. I hope this is helps.

Thanks,

krfar

We have not changed anything in the way we get Media Data… although we have included the option to refresh this at startup. However if you are able to assign a button to a command, then SQ Remote is getting the information that it should.

Could you raise a support ticket on our site, and I will ask my colleagues to look at this.

John

Will do.

Thanks,

KR

it is looking that some of the code in mios “broke” in the last release that is causing issues with IR controlled devices (not just SQ Blaster, but GC100 too).

@Guessed is very kindly helping to track it down and has reported it to MCV.

I am not sure if this is your issue yet, but once the Mios issues are characterized we can see what your issue is.

I have just spent several hours trying to configure my GC100 unit… no - luck… Is there some secret handshake I am missing?

I was using the latest stable release of UI4, but that didn’t want to work… so I upgraded to the latest Beta (1183)… still no joy!

Any pointers Anyone?

OK - Joy - I have my GC100 working (needs to be on the same sub-net as the Vera unit)

I have verified that this problem exists … which is a start to finding the solution. I have checked to make sure that the command information is being passed to SQ Remote correctly and that it is embedded into the controls… and that the http call to Vera is correctly formed… all these are OK - so I can only think that something has changed on the IR implementation of Vera - perhaps to do with their creation of their Trick-TV Blaster device.

I have put in a direct request to Aaron and his team to have a look at this and I will let you know as soon as we have some feedback / info from them.

John

I have been told by MCV that this has now been fixed, and the next official release of Vera firmware will no longer have this problem. So something WAS broken… thanks to everyone (especially krfar) for bringing this to our attention.

Update: OK- So I updated to the latest beta 1.1.1222, and reset the IP address for my GC100, and can confirm that this is not firing the IR commands when I send them. I shall contact MCV to inform them of this issue.

John

Would it be obtuse of me to ask if there was any indication from them when this might be? I can definitely survive for a bit, but I didn’t realize how much I have come to rely on the SQ Blaster integration (via @guessed’s plugin) until it was gone.

Edit: Looks like MCV are releasing a beta2 update that addresses this shortly.

Well, I’m now running 1.1.1221 and the problem presisits. I’m really getting tired of this. I’ve been at this for months now.

@krfar,

I’ll make sure John sees this post and see if he has got his GC100 up and running now.

It is very frustrating.

Mat

I am upgrading to the latest 1.1.1222 to see if I can replicate this. I will post my findings.

I don’t know what to say anymore. I’ve been waiting for months for a solution on this.
