This isfor anyone that is trying to use another router and finds that the Internet is running a lot slower or that they’re losing the Internet altogether. I had these problems for months before I got smart enough to eliminate my Linksys router altogether.
Were you using a stock Linksys,… or were you using one flashed with openWrt of some sort (like Gargoyle)???
I haven’t noticed a slowdown… My Linksys WRT54GS is flashed with Gargoyle…
AFAIK, many people use Vera behind some other router. Maybe you have some problems with your router/Vera configuration?
that’s possible. I’ll be the first to admit that I may have done something wrong. I have a houseguest from out of town that has been making his living setting up networks for law firms. He spent a whole day working on it, but after he left, I had the same problem. I used speed test.net to check my upload and download speeds, which were a fraction of what they should’ve been. I got much better results when I used an ethernet cable. But I wanted to use my computers and printers wirelessly. After I used Vera for my one and only router, I had no problem with my computer dropping the Internet or with speeds.
I suggest using the Vera on the cable modem side, and using your existing router as a wireless access point and to connect your networked machines. My Vera’s wireless connectivity is deactivated. I use my Linksys router for wireless.
Also, the Vera’s antennae does not always make good contact. If you have another device with a wireless antennae that fits the connector, I suggest swapping them. The antennae from a Linksys WMP54G PCI wireless card should fit, and the Vera’s antennae actually makes a better fit on the Linksys card.
thanks for all the information. The router that I had a problem with was a linksys WRT54G2 (with no external antenna) which I install it after I had similar problems with a Linksys wrt54g. As long as Vera keeps working, I am completely satisfied with leaving her as my router.
