My situation is as follows, I ended up with a 9 month puppy who’s starting her ‘chewing’ stage. I caught her on camera a few times. What I would like to be able to do is run a scene (femotely from eg my phone) to play a sound file, eg ‘No no bad dog!’ on a windows or unix machine.
I don’t have sqblaster or any specific hardware. I was just wondering if it was possible for Vera to send a command to eg a WHS2011 box to play a specific WAV file.
Check out the Vera Alerts app for Android, and the associated plugin for Vera called VeraAlerts. It uses the TTS engine on android to speak whatever text you send to it.
I have an old phone with a broken screen hooked into the whole house audio system, and use it for sending voice alerts. It’s awesome.
Thank you for that suggestion. I have an old Android 2.3 tablet that I hope will work. Easy enough to hook some powered speakers up to it. I know my Android 4.0 Touchpad won’t as no sound in CM9 without going to the nightlies. .
She’s gonna get crated next week. I came home today to shredded Cabela and LMC catalogs. I know she did it, as I caught her on camera.
I have requested that the ability to play audio clips be added to Vera Alert. It’s working great for TTS but there are cases where recordings are better. In your case a recording of your voice would ideal. You should check out this plugin/app. It’s great.
Ok, I installed Vera Alerts on my old tablet and the VeraAlerts on Vera. Set the default recipients to the device identifier shown on the tablet. Typed something in the ‘send alert’ field and hit send. Nothing happens on either side. The app is running on the tablet and is open. What am I missing?
Make sure in the app on your tablet you hit the menu button, then click register. This will register that number with the push service. That took me a minute to figure out as well.
I had registered the tablet. Unregistered and re-registered. Double checked the device ID as not 100% sure if it started with vv or w. No luck.
Installed it on my CM9 (ICS) Touchpad. Works like a charm but no sound on that due to CM9. Seems like the Android app does not work well with the Android version running on the little chipad running 2.2 Android . Pity, this might have given me at least part of what I was looking for.
Thanks for the help though.
