Upgrading from Vera 3 to Vera Edge and then decommissioning the Vera 3

I did a controller shift from the Vera 3 to the Vera Edge. I now can see and control all devices from both controllers. I am giving my Vera 3 to someone else so I need to factory reset it. When I go to Settings>Backup and click the Reset to Default option I get the following error. “You don’t have permission to access this functionality.” I have read that before doing a reset to defaults you should perform a “reset Z-Wave network.” I assume I don’t need to do this since I did a controller shift. I have never done this before so I am concerned that if I do a z-wave network reset on what is not the secondary controller it may do it for the primary controller as well and wipe out my network. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I am kind of in a rush because I promised to give my friend the Vera 3 in the very near future so he can keep his project on time.

Before you begin something like this, it’s always safest to take a backup, including backing up the Z-Wave network/chip/dongle.

On the retired device:
Reset Vera to factory defaults: Setup > Backup > Restore factory defaults

May also need Reset Z-Wave: Setup → Z-Wave → Advanced options → Reset Z-Wave network.

If this doesn’t work properly, then have a look at this thread. Depending on your Vera UI version, it may be necessary to do a little more than just run the script in SSH.

Reset Z-Wave Network erases the Z-Wave chip/dongle and all it’s data on that Vera device only. I will not affect the network as a whole or the other Vera Edge, which is now the master controller. However, if you run this on the only Z-Wave controller on your Z-Wave network, you will lose the network and must exclude/include all of your devices. (Unless you have a backup ;))

Reset Z-Wave Chip reinitializes the chip/dongle, like a reboot, without harming any of its data. This operation should be safe at any time and will not erase the dongle.

I have always thought that Vera needed better descriptive labels on these potentially devastating options.

I wasn’t able to use the option in the UI and even the SSH command wouldn’t work. I tried running through those other steps but then I read someone that said if you double tap and hold the reset button it would work. I tried that and it finally did a reset. I had previously tried the double but not combined with a hold. Thanks for your help.
