Upgrading from UI5 to UI7 Hesitant at first but actually not bad.

About 3 years ago I tried upgrading from 5 to the newest UI and it failed miserably. Nothing worked. Had to contact support and roll back. It was a big pain in the ass. After I got rolled back I let my system sit, untouched for almost 3 years.

That all changed this week when I bought a zwave plus device and read that I needed UI7 to use these devices easily. UI5 would not even adopt the device. With my past experience I was extremely hesitant but I had just bought the new Aeon Labs Smart Switch and was excited to use it, so I decided to take the plunge.

I started the upgrade after backing up my old config. The upgrade failed saying that I had to reset to factor then restore. Scary, but I did it anyways.

Upgraded no problem. 10-15 min later up and running on UI7, looks awesome! Time to restore backup. After another 5 min the backup restored. All my devices were loaded.
My thermostat actually looked like it worked. I have a minimote, the scenes worked. I have ge switches that when turned on trigger scenes. Everything seemed to work, I was thrilled!

Next day, none of my auto scenes triggered. Dug around on the forums and found that you have to edit them to “this scene runs” and pick a mode, home, away, etc. After doing that they worked flawless.

My Aeonlabs Smart switch finally linked to the vera but it still is not switching properly and I am having some issues with my user name but I have a ticket into support.

Long story short, I was hesitant to switch to UI7, I was nervous of what would break after my experience and what I read on the forums, but after upgrading, I have to admit it was extremely painless and well worth all the features UI7 added. I am glad I upgraded.

Good luck with you upgrades!

+1

Just did this same exact thing on my lite; it was actually seamless!

All my logic has been moved to openhab, so I’m only using the vera lite to control zwave devices, but either way, I’m impressed the upgrade actually worked as expected. All the devices migrated as expected. The one minor hiccup was the login loop that was already outlined (just created a new account to resolve this).

The entire process from start to finish took a little bit less than 15 minutes. I’ve been putting this off ever since UI7 was announced, so I’m excited it actually worked. Thanks to MCV for getting everything worked out.
