Last night I upgraded the firmware on my Vera 2 and I lost my entire configuration. Luckily I only have three locks, but now it looks like I have to go around my house and “rediscover” two of the three. Also, I have to re-enter all the pin codes (for each lock). I did back up prior to the upgrade but when I try to restore from the backup, I’m back to no configuration. This is my first firmware update. Please tell me I did something wrong.
When you did your upgrade. Did you choose “save current configuration” ?
Also, when you did your backup. Did you do a Dongle Backup prior to doing the backup?
With only having three locks it may be easier to start fresh. Otherwise, I think you may have to downgrade to restore your backup, assuming you did the backup correctly.
Thanks for the quick response. I'm not sure I know what a Dongle backup is, but I did a backup to a networked computer under the Advance menu. I decided to try to restore an earlier backup and I was able to restore that correctly. So that makes me feel much better. So, it looks like my last backup must be corrupt. So, I think I'm all set. Still have a lot to learn, like moving my Vera 2 to a more central location in my house.
If your system has been up and running for a while you should not need to do a dongle back up, this happens automatically over time. If you make changes to the system by adding / removing devices (Z-Wave) and intend to do a backup right afterwards, then do a dongle backup prior to a system backup.
The dongle backup is found on the tool box bar, under the Z-Wave device tab, advanced.
I click it before every backup just to be sure, I got burned one time when I sent the dongle back to MCV and ended up having to rebuild from scratch and dont intend to let it happen again… ;D
I was referring to V1 “sent the dongle back to MCV” but as @pgrover516 stated it’s still the same thing with V2. The error message of no Z-Wave donlge still means the same in V2 as V1 meaning the chip locked up.
I personally do a dongle backup prior to a system backup but as I said earlier, if your system has been up and running with no Z-Wave changes it’s not necessary.
