Update Neighbor Nodes - Does The Button Work For Others ?

Hi

I’ve just relocated a battery device to another location in the house and to inform Vera I clicked on the Update Neighbor Nodes button under the Device Options tab.

Now my understanding of this button is that it does a ‘mini Heal’ process whereby it looks at the nodes and routes available in the mesh for that device and then updates the device with neigbor Nodes.

As the device was installed near Vera, it was intially populated with a number of Nodes in the neighbor listing “1, 6, 10, 15, 16” - so moving it to it’s new location, and clicking Update Neighbor Nodes I assumed these would change. However looking in the logs, it seems to do absolutely nothing (well that’s what I assume it is saying) - as the original list of neigbor nodes remains the same…

I should add that while most of my nodes are battery powered, 4 are mains powered and should act as a routing nodes.

I appreciate I can do a system heal which would target nodes multiple time - but seeing that the button is there and quite promanant on one of the tab - it’s a logical option to choose after moving just one device - therefore I’m cusrious does the button work for others ?

If someone gets the chance, I would really appreciate it if they could click on ‘update neighbor nodes’ button and let me know the results.

Ideally if you’re moving a single device to a new location, it would be an ideal time to do it and share your log results.

I did this to one of my ge outdoor light modules. I moved it from 25 feet away to 2 foot away from an intermatic Ha05. I clicked “'update neighbor nodes” for the device but it still does not see the ha05. I have two of these for lights outside my garage the one in question on sees 4 devices while the other sees 8. I then did the revers for the ha05 that can only see 4 nodes and told it to heal. Nothing changed. I do not know if this helps you or not. If it is a problem with my Ha05 i am not sure why it would see any nodes…

Are you able to share your log results when you click/run the ‘update neighbor node’ button like I did below ?

Using my limited knowledge on my results, it seems to suggest is just went through the motions in 0 seconds (0m) and basically did nothing (now I might be wrong, but unless someone can explain otherwise that’s what it looks like .)

I would be very interested to see what yours shows.

Can you tell me where to find the log information? When i click on the log tab for the device it takes me to an alert page with no other information on it. If i click on the log tab under setup it just gives me check boxes for configuring logging and usb storage. I have repaired several time and cannot find any info.

The log file you need is located on Vera here /var/log/cmh/LuaUPnP.log (attain using SSH, or WinSCP)

Have a look at this on how to get there etc. - http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Logs

Plus there’s a web version too via http://192.xxx.x.xxx/cgi-bin/cmh/log.sh?Device=LuaUPnP

When extracting info, the best way for me is to use WinSCP and access the log file directly …

I’m not sure what @OTi edited, but looking at your extract (with limited knowledge) you seem to have something different to me.

Maybe that’s because you are on the latest Vera beta firmware?

I assume you have tried a full system heal to try and solve your issue? From what I have seen so far on my Vera ‘Update Neigbor Nodes’ does not look to do anything.

Yes, I guess it might have something to do with the new firmware. I have PM OTI to ask what was removed. I have never looked at the logs before until now. I am running the newer firmware because of issues with the new Schlage motorized deadbolt. Thanks,

I think the [tt]Update Neighbor Nodes[/tt] stuff is affected by some of the Z-Wave settings. Could the pair of you post whether you have the following settings checked or unchecked?

[tt]Setup[/tt] > [tt]Z-Wave Settings[/tt] > [tt]Options[/tt]

[tt]Use Z-Wave version 3.20 instead of 2.78 IMPORTANT: Read this first

For testing purpose I got out one of my GE outdoor modules and placed it inside the house. I did the update neighbor nodes and nothing changed. The device is inside now and the list should have changed. I then did a zwave repair for this node and nothing changed. I then did a zwave repair for a device that it can’t see but should and it did not update either. I have not performed a repair on my entire network. I would think doing what I have done above would update information correctly. My only other thought would be to exclude device and include it again.

Just to chirp in mine also does not work properly, on entire network heal or the button on an individual node, would be great to get a fix for this.

I purchased a spare ha05 device to test with. I unplugged the old one and set aside so i would not mess with schedules etc. installed new device an included I went from seeing 4 devices with the existing device to 9 devices with the new device.

I agree. I do not know the history on this… Has anyone ever filled a support request?

Hi @LightsOn

Would you be able share the results in your log file when you click on the ‘Update Neighbor Nodes’ button - you can see my results in the first post on this thread. I’m not aware of a full system heal having issues, as you receive a report on that - but for this particular thread - it’s focused on the device specific update node (heal) button.

I’m looking at this with very limited knowledge, but I think yours worked? However can I ask - did you move that device 39 (node 33) to a new location and then click the update neighbor nodes button? Or did it stay in the same (known) location?
