I’ve got a VERA3 with UI5 and the FOSCAM FI8905W. I spend a frustrating afternoon with it today, and got it up and running (even able to remotely view the camera with my Iphone and Ipad).
I am using the Generic IP camera plug-in. The only problem is that I can’t get it to recognize the motion detector and IR-LED illumination. Wish I could be more help. I can try to do some screen captures of the configuration screens.
I’m not going to give up, but if anyone on here has gotten this camera up and running with the IR and motion detection supports, if would be greatly appreciated if you could provide some insight on how you did it ![]()
Thanks
Jeff
In UI5, you should not have to use the generic camera plugin. Camera support is built into UI5. I am not sure that it works with motion detection. What are you trying to do with the IR illumination? Do you want to be able to turn it on and off?

Not trying to turn the IR off/on, but when I go into Setting tab for the camera within the UI, it indicates “No sensors”, so I can’t see a way to get it to respond to motion detection. The file being used by the UI5 is “D_DigitalSecurityCamera1.xml”.
I’ve attached a pic to show the NO SENSORS indication on the settings screen:
@jwlehman
Make sure that the category_num of your sensor is 4. category_num can be found in the device control panel >> Advanced tab.
I have a FI8904W (which is a FI8905W with a different lens iirc) which had the category_num set to 6 (and showed the dialog pasted above), but when I changed it to 4, all those options are gone…
Can we find out what category_num matched which camera type?
@Quinten
The categoy_num of the motion sensor must be set to 4, the category_num of the camera should be left as it is.
Ah! Ok, my bad, although kind of interesting to see how the dialog changed to something else ![]()
mcvflorin:
Thanks for the input! I tried your recommend change, but got some unexpected results. Please take a look at the screen captures below. The first pic shows the field I changed to “4”, and the second pic shows the new settings tab (see original settings screen capture I posted on 2/20 above)…it’s much more limited on choices:
^^ that is exactly what happened to my dialog. You’re modifying the wrong category_num.
Where is the correct field to enter the category_num? I only see one category_num field anywhere else in the advanced settings. I’m obviously confused :
any help would be appreciated.

The categoy_num of the motion sensor must be set to 4, the category_num of the camera should be left as it is.[/quote]
mcvflorin makes bolded reference to changing the settings of the motion sensor. I don’t see a area in the settings particularly for the motion sensor.
Out of curiosity where can I find documentation that lays out all of the parameters for these settings, and explains what each setting field effects?
- Open the motion sensor control panel.
- Open the Advanced tab.
- Scroll down to find the category_num field.
- Make sure that category_num is 4.
