Unable to add Schlage Lock after ~1yr of good behavior

I’ve been using a Schlage dead bolt for about a year. Recently it stopped accepting our user PIN codes. I tried to manage it through my Vera, but it was unresponsive. So, I decided to remove and re-add it. Unfortunately, after ~ 50 tries, I’m dead in the water.

I’ve tried to exclude it (Vera in exclude, enter programming code, wait for flashes/beeps, press Schlage, then 0).
I’ve tried to factory reset it (remove 9V, press Schlage, re-attach 9V, hold Schlage until long beep).
I’ve tried adding it after every exclude and reset (same as exclude, but Vera in include mode).

Oh, and for all of these, I’ve tried at the door (no Internet to Vera) and I’ve disassembled the lock and brought it to the Vera. For the latter, I’ve tried both a Full Power Exclude/Include from the UI and an Exclude/Include using the rear button. (BTW, the WIKI instructions about red and black buttons make no sense for my Vera 2.)

I’m at the end of my rope… the nanny can’t get in tomorrow and the wife is wondering “what’s wrong with a key!”

(Vera 2, UI4)

Oh god, we have all been there…“But Honey, why can’t we go back to the old way of switching channels”…because it is too late to go back, we must move forward…

Here is a link to the reset:

just in case you weren’t doing it correctly, and it seems like you would excude it first to do a network reset before the major reset

I would say not to give up, you probably have it reset properly, if so you should at least be able to use it with the original codes. Now pairing with Vera again can be challenging, but I place the lock on a desk next to Vera about 18" apart and usually have the best luck that way.

Tim,

I had similar problems when I upgraded to UI4. I didn’t do all the wipe and reloads you tried, but I was going crazy because it worked perfectly beforehand. I finally contacted MCV and on the first phone call they solved the problem. One of my issues was, for some reason, after the upgrade the signal wasn’t getting back to Vera like it did before. I bought a couple of the GE plug-in switches and that seems to have been part of the solution also.
