UK Alarm system (DSC?)

Hi,

I’ve been doing a lot of research on these forums for a decent alarm I can use with the VeraLite. The PC1832 keeps cropping us as a really good option for most people, especially when coupled with the IT-100.

My question is this…Will the alarm be suitable for UK installation, and how do I go about wiring this up to the mains electricity?

Thanks in advance.

Yes it will work on the UK, howeve, there are EU options for the DSC as the EU and US wireless devices are on different frequencies. There is of course different power supply as well. Look at the Envisalink EVL 3 as an alternative to the IT100. The EVL3 is more current and use Ethernet to connect over your LAN.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I’ll look at the EVL3 as a replacement for the IT-100, it sounds like it would better suit my needs.

You mention the PC1832 would need a different power supply? If I buy a PC1832 from a UK supplier will it come with the correct power supply, and if not could you point me in the right direction??

Cheers.

There were previous buyer from the UK but a quick search on google identified a few suppliers and they should provide the correct power supplier. There are other alarm systems that are cheaper in the UK that have also been previously detailed on the forum as well.

A few key points when you are trying to determine what and where to get stuff.

The wireless frequencies are different between EU and US and therefore RFxxx keypads include the wireless module. Same for wireless devices you must match to the RF module e.g all UK

The other devices such as keypads, EVL3 are the same internationally and can be sourced from US if desired.

Also one of the alarm settings allows for either 50/60 Hz operation - this is just used to keep the time correct in the system.

I’ve just installed an 1832 panel and EVL3 in the UK and can confirm it works fine and all integrates well with Vera. It was from a UK supplier (Zwave-products) who sell the unit and ancillarilys (it came with the panel / PSU and metal housing, but I needed to purchase a battery separate).
I did it as a retrofit / swapout of an old panel, and kept all the old bell box / wired sensors in place.
I had a couple of issues getting the panel setup, but these were quickly sorted out with some additional instructions from the supplier (there was a delta key sequence required to allow for installer mode to be accessed which wasn’t in the DSC instructions).
I really like the flexibility it adds to the automation setup - e.g. I’ve got it to trigger security lighting programmes based on alarm status, and automatically drop the heating by a couple of degrees when I leave the house / revert it when I get back.
