Im trying to figure out how this button figures out what devices are getting turned on/off
Part of the problem is that not everything on a switch is a light, so a generic turn all my switches on is super useful
The other part is that one of my switches is an in wall on/off and it does not seem to be considered a light.
All the dimmers and plugin modules do.
I tried modifying the categories, but that didn’t seem to do it, and even when I changed the values, the changes didn’t seem to stick.
Why not just make a manual scene that fits your needs vs. trying to change every device? With celing fans, dimming lights, on/off lights and all other things that are not even a light it’s very difficult to come up with one solution that works for everyone.
Creating a maunal scene would be the way to make a button tailored to your needs. Ofcourse good apps like Imperihome can already group (you select from a check list) lights of your choice too. So there are many options out there.
I already have a few scenes and thought about making one for this, just thought it would be nice to take advantage of the shortcut.
Thanks for your advice.
Just had support fix this for me using remote access. Sub-category was changed either 1 or 3 and shortcut now works.
Thank you support team!! Johnny was very helpful.
Clearly this is aimed at the novice that has a few lights attached to their Vera.
It does not work when you start Automating everything, fans, pumps, Power switches for routers, etc. … and get serious about your automation.
So it’s best to ALWAYS have tour own ALL Lights ON an All Lights OFF scene.
There are some lights you do not want to come on with an ALL LIGHTS ON … like the ones in my crawl space, Or turn off at nigh (like my exterior lights that are turned on at night).
I thought this seemed a good idea at first. I even got support to ‘fix’ it for me by changing the subcategories. Unfortunately this actually caused more problems than anyone thought and I changed them all back. nowadays I ignore the dashboard as there is nothing useful for me there.
I have my own ALL OFF scene for nightly off checking. I still don’t see a need for ALL ON (unless maybee during a fire?).

I agree with the novice statement, still getting used to U17 with look and feel. I find the scenes work best and have many but shortcuts are nice. Yes, most dashboard stuff will probably never be used but at this point being new for me it’s nice to have it all working while I’m playing with it.
I don’t have an alarm which is why I don’t need the ALL ON but it does make sense. I would hook my smoke detectors into Vera and use it then but unfortunately the smoke detectors go off too often for that. If we forget to close the kitchen door when cooking they go off every time (and no we don’t always burn stuff ;))
How can you modify the subcategory if a device does not have this parameter (ie virtual switch devices)?
My virtual switches are mapped to lights via openhab and thus should be part of the lights category so I can use ALL ON/OFF
I have something similar with two scene buttons located next to the bed. The “Emergency” button turns on all the lights, unlocks the front door, and starts blinking the porch light. It should draw in the fire/ambulance right to the house (and they don’t have to break down the door).
My second button is an “Intruder” button, that turns off all of the lights upstairs, and turns on all the lights downstairs. If that does not scare off that person who has broken in…

i’d like to have a virtual switch device to be recognized as a light so that it can participate in all lights off.[/quote]
You have went outside the realm of what vera has created the all on/off for. Making a scene tailored just for your specific needs would take like 2 minute and would not require you to screw with any of the devices categories. It also allows total control of what devices (virtual or not) is used or not. Sounds perfect for your needs.
