Ugh.... No usable motion sensors?

I tried to order an Aeon tech, but they aren’t available.
The everspring sounds slow and unreliable.
The hs100 is not working with the current release.

So what do you guys suggest?

I searched, but did not see any working suggestions.

Have just got an EZMotion ver 3, and can just agree with you. Every motion detector for Z-wave seems like Dinky Toys to me. They must be 100% reliable - period.

Think it’s better (and cheaper) to buy a real PIR and add a Fibaro Universal Sensor to it and power it with 12v.
Only problem one can get is that it has to be powered, and don’t work during power failure. Else a motion detector outside must be powered anyway, since battery and winter doesn’t seems to be a good option imo.

I choose the EZMotion because of it’s Pet-safe settings. Can’t find the temperature or lux-metering, thus not been able to used or understood them yet.
I’ve now started to test the EZMotion in another way, and it seems at least to trigger sometimes - this is what I will test, how and when. As I write it seems like it actually works.

It works like this (getting the info from another posts), once it triggered it sends a trigger alarm, then it will send an alarm off command (within the time set in param 2 -default 20 min, I’ve set mine to 5 min), and IF it’s not triggered again during that time.
Thus:

  1. If it’s only triggered once (e.g. one walks trough a hall) then the light will be on for 20 min and then turned off.
  2. It’s triggered, light turns on. Then you walk by again before 20 min passed, the internal timmer will be set to zero and start counting - i.e. nothing is sent. As long as it’s triggered again and again during on-time nothing is sent out.
When one finnaly not trigger it and the set time has expired, then it will finally send it’s alarm off command.

Note! This is to be determined from my part and is only what I’ve found so far and it seems ok. Then if it works flawlessly I don’t know yet. Firmware in Vera seems not to be updated yet, and that is a pity for the manufacturer and to some extent to Micasa. Either way it’s a shame to sell us stuff in this price range that doesn’t works better, have better documentation etc. Therefore I still see them all as expensive toys, and that’s real bad.

Quite right, it’s a sorry state of affairs but there is not any zwave motion sensor I’m aware of working correctly at this time, this is a known problem for several months and as far as I can tell there is zero progress on addressing this. One recommended alternative if you have an alarm system is to use wired sensors and then tie your vera into alarm system

That’s unfortunate - this is the next stage of Z-wave for me - now that the rest of my Z-wave devices are working reliably I really want to have reliable motion sensors in each well-traveled room so I can trigger motion-based scenes as people walk through rooms or as activity is not detected in a room. I bought a battery-powered 3-in-one sensor a while ago and found it to be pretty unreliable so I removed it from my network - too bad there hasn’t been significant progress in this area.

What’s surprising is that the GE-based alarm systems (which I thought used Z-wave) seem to have this down - I have a system from FrontPoint and the wireless motion sensors are very reliable.

It would be especially great to be able to have some sort of nearfield NFC or bluetooth solution for residents of the house, so that residents could carry some sort of FOB (or a phone) and even if there is no movement in a room (e.g. someone is reading) the system would detect presence in that room and the lights would stay on.

All of the wireless sensors for alarm systems like GE, Honeywell, DSC, etc use a different frequency and proprietary protocols that have been in use for a very long time. They are designed to be very reliable and secure as that is what is needed for alarm systems. Non of them use any sort of the z-wave protocol. Some of the systems will allow you to use zwave devices for basic control (e.g. act as a primary zwave controller).

Are there any issues with the motion part of the HSM100?

I’ve got an HSM100 & Two Aeon, I just can’t get them to work great every time…

see recent comment here http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,13114.msg101959.html#msg101959

I just received my vera lite today. My goal is also to use motion sensors in my house to turn on lights as a person walks through the home. I am very disappointed to read this thread. I also researched all through Amazon’s products and I don’t get a feeling that any of the sensors available actually work.

I have just e-mail Aeon Labs to see if they have any compatible products.

Motion sensors seem like such a basic thing. Not sure why it is not available.

+1 ! I thought it should be more practical than my door sensors. But I still have not been able to get it paired correctly.
