U17 manual routing

Hi all,

My network consists of ~ 35 nodes using a Vera3.

I am having a problem getting consistent communication to nodes that are on the far end of the network (outside the home). They are well with 25 feet of other nodes, and the signal strength shouldn’t be an issue. I suspect it’s a routing problem, where it’s hopping to >4 nodes. The problem is sporadic… it can be fine for a week then it will appear for a day or so.

I would like to setup manual routing for these nodes. I have U17. For some reason, I am unable to find out how to do this with U17… for U15 it seems simple.

How do I setup manual routing for a few nodes in U17?

Or, any other tips for debugging this?
thanks !

Hello Mike! I believe I have a problem similar to yours with one of my devices. Were you able to find info on how to do manual routing with Vera Edge UI7?
Thanks!

I don’t believe the last few firmware son UI7 support manual routing.

If you are on 1.7.1248 or earlier you go to device option page of a device it is the first field on the list. Not sure it is there on newer firmware.

Manual routing is no longer possible with UI7 and newer z-wave firmware because this is now automatically handled by the z-wave chip and firmware, based on certain factors. This was an option back on Ui5 and some old UI7 firmware versions, when Vera was using an “in-house” routing method, but now this handled by the z-wave chip itself.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately it doesn’t help. Lots of us would love to be able to do some manual routing. I expect the z-wave chip routing will continue to improve but as can be seen on these forums its not perfect yet.

Manual routing is useful in the rarest of circumstances. Lots of people want many things that they don’t understand and the origination of this thread is the perfect example.

Baseless assumptions of signal strength and routing, no site survey to eliminate the possibility of interference, presumption of improvements by manually specifying parameters based on prior baseless assumptions…

If you’ve got range/routing issues such as these, the best remedies are adding nodes and relocating Vera to a more central location.

Hi all,

According to what I’ve read, the new FW does an auto-heal at night. Every day I wake up there are 1-3 different seemingly random modules failing. They are the ones that are furthest away yet are well covered.

I do view this as unacceptable.

I’ve taken to turning off the Configure automatically, which I think (?) causes this auto-heal nightly to not process that node. Can someone confirm? On the 2 modules I’ve done it on, the error has not returned.

I migrated from an old I(very old) ntermatic handheld HA07 setup and had a total of 1 z-wave problem in 5 years… one module started acting flaky and actually had to be replaced. With Vera, I get 1-3 new issues per DAY. This is not what I signed up for and surely does not seem better.
