Two kwikset locks, one works the other does not properly display status info

I gave up on getting reliable status from the Zwave lock that was not close to my Vera Lite. I have purchased a second Vera Lite so I can get reliable communications with both Kwikset locks.

The first lock (in law suite) reports status reliabily. It shows the battery status, and the lock / unlock graphic accurately updates.

Before getting the second Vera Lite to place near second lock (front door) I could not get it to provide status or lock/unlock reliably. Now that I have the second Vera Lite by the second lock it does reliably lock and unlock, and it updates the lock / unlock buttons properly but does not show the lock status graphic properly (e.g. shows locked even when unlocked) and it does not show the battery status. What is interesting is on the advanced tab for the device it does look quite a bit different and it does not show anything regarding the battery on the second lock.

I have attached a document with all the information from the advanced tab on both locks. Does anyone have any thoughts on what is the issue. Both locks were purchased about 18 months ago and they were purchased about 30 days apart.

Thx
Bryan

I don’t see anything out of the ordinary on your Advanced tab settings. I’m definitely a newbie though. With the placement of my Vera Lite close to my 3 locks, I do get 100% lock activation and correct status reporting. Encrypted RF just seems to be very sensitive to placement and signal strength!

However, just like you, my battery status does not always show up on my cp.mios.com dashboard or on my iPhone automator app even with my new Vera Lite placement. In terms of battery indicator reliability, I question that as well. I started using my 3 Kwikset locks back in March. Within the first week, the indicator dropped from 100% to 70%. It’s almost June now and I’m still at 70% with heavy use since I’ve been obsessing with the locks activation/polling reliability. The throw on all 3 locks is smooth so we’ll see how long the battery truly lasts.

Good luck!

On the lock that does not report status of the battery you will notice it does not even show fields for battery status or install date. I could understand blank but completely missing seems strange.

Bryan

Bryan,

You’re right, that would be weird if the battery level field is completely missing. I kept a watch on the battery level indicator over the last few days on all 3 of my Kwikset locks and they are present on the dashboard.

Here is one more thing that’s worth a shot, after moving my Vera Lite unit closer to my locks, I also forced a manual Z wave route of “0” under Device Options for each lock. This should force the Vera unit to communicate directly with the locks. This combo seemed to get me the best reliability in activation/polling.

I wonder if the bridging of your two Vera units some how messes with the battery indicator?

Hi Bryan,

DJ2000 is right.
For the locks, try setting them to a pre-defined route (e.g. 0 to talk directly to Vera).
This helped me a lot when dealing with my locks

DJ and Flo,

I am traveling, I will try when I get home on Friday night (too much travel).

I have not bridged the Vera units. I did not want to add that complexity until I had the locks working reliably. Bridging won’t bring me a ton of value since the only reason I have the Veras is to allow me to integrate the Kwikset locks with my Crestron system.

Thx
