Two Basic Set up Questions--Model Type and Findvera.com

Just got my Vera 2 in the mail today–decided to take the plunge after following this forum for a while! I have two questions:

  1. I see that findvera.com does not detect Vera 2 on my network but cp.mios.com does. Is this normal now? I have full functionality with cp.mios.com and am very happy, but I just want to make sure findvera.com is a byproduct of the whole ‘beta testing’ we are all participating in.

  2. How can I confirm whether I have a US or Euro Vera 2? Are there any model/serial number giveaways or areas where I can find the transmission frequency? I’m in the UK right now and ordered an inexpensive Euro version, but wanted to double check it’s not the US version! Especially since I see all the familiar FCC logos on the back. The unit was actually set to Australia time before I used it, so I’m thinking it’s still Euro…

That’s all for now, I’m looking forward to linking up the Vera 2 with a FOSCAM camera and some dimmer switches ;D

Thank you!

  1. Findvera.com is not used for UI4. Since you can see your Vera via Mios that confirms you have UI4.

  2. I dont know the answer to this and I dont think there are any giveaways on the unit but maybe someone else can chime in…

Frequency band: The Z-Wave Radio uses the 900 MHz ISM band: 908.42MHz (United States); 868.42MHz (Europe); 919.82MHz (Hong Kong); 921.42MHz (Australia/New Zealand).

JOD.

Thanks so much, JOD

Makes sense with the findvera.com not working, I figured it probably got left behind.

The frequency band would be perfect for ID’ing the unit, as you listed out there. Hmmm, I thought there might be an ‘about’ tab in the Vera software that could give the hardware’s frequency. I’m still poking around with the unit.

The Vera 2 did come shipped with a Euro plug rather than an American or Australian type plug, so hopefully it’s the 868.42Mhz frequency as I ordered a set of Euro Z-wave items!

Any other ideas?

You’re welcome.

I have seen a few posts of users getting the euro plug but the wrong FW flash on the box but thats rare and the true test will be when you get your devices installed, but I think you will be ok.

I’m confident it does not give any indications in, on or around Vera as to what frequency it is.

Thank you JOD–I received the other half of my system today and everything is up and running smoothly!! Very impressed with the system–a little quirky in places but stable for the most part.

Would you recommend putting the Vera 2 on some sort of timed daily reset switch, in case it ever locks up when remote access is needed? I have been browsing the forums and have seen a few posts where the Vera 2 locked up when people needed remote access. Vera seems stable so far, but since it’s a small computer, I figured there’s always a chance of crashing here and there. Not a big deal if I’m in the house or town, but I’m going to be remote monitoring for a month on a different continent…don’t want to be flying back to reset the box!

Yes, have a timer to power cycle her once per day. Or via some other method that you can fire off at will.
Make sure you dont have timed scenes running or scheduled to run around the same time as the power cycle.

Thank you, I put a timer to power cycle the VERA. I was tempted to get a phone line trigger but felt the digital timers would suffice for now!
