I’m not sure if this is related to the Dongle Recall or what, but ASIHOME has had thier order in for Vera units since 9-22?? So the product is on backorder and they said they should have them by next Friday the 20th. I would have bought it directly from MCV, but I missed the boat on their Schalge promo so when I saw AsiHome offering a similar promo, I couldn’t pass that up.
I guess it will be worth waiting for. AsiHome was kind enough to get the other items (thermostat/lock) out to me so that should keep me occupied for now. I have a friend that would say that this is what I get for trying to save a buck. I had no idea there was a supply problem with MCV, I guess it is good if that means they are selling more units.
I hope you’re right that it’s a good thing. But these days our great vendors have spoiled us. I now expect to receive a shipping notice and tracking number within an hour or two of placing my order. Having to wait two months is just crazy unacceptable. I’m glad you’ve been active in the forum anyway.
I ran into the exact same thing when I ordered my vera, thermostat & schlage lock from asihome about a month ago, the vera took about a 2 weeks to get, but, the other things came immediately. I’ve got them all in place now though. Personally, I think that asihome doesn’t keep too many vera’s in stock.
ASIhome is slow. If you don’t mind waiting about a month for delivery, order from them. I will not order from them again. It seems like they dont stock anything. There support is responsive just not informative.
I’ve ordered from both ASI and Smarthome-Products, and have mixed experiences with both, although I’m generally satisfied with both.
In the case of ASI, what bugged me the most was not seeing if a product was back-ordered/out of stock until I actually completed my purchase. I have probably cancelled 3 or 4 orders with them after the fact due to this. But they have otherwise always been responsive and very quick to ship items in stock.
For Smarthome-products, I’ve also found them to be responsive and quick to ship, but a slightly less robust product selection and just slightly higher prices. One thing I especially like about Smarthome-products, however, is that they almost always have product specs/installation manuals included on their website, whereas they always seem to be missing from ASI.
FWIW, hope that helps. Basically, you can’t go wrong with either.
I made 2 orders with Smarthome-Products after my order with asihome and I received them before the asihome order. I would recommend Smarthome-Products.
Thank you for the recommendations and feedback. I would have had a similar price if I purchased everything on ebay separate using Bing cashback, but I’d be using up by cashback opprotunities on ebay (better to make that 8% count on big ticket items).
Some of the flaws (bad clipart, misalignments, etc) in the ASIHome website had me worried about the size of the company and their ability to deliver, but I believe they are part of Worthington Distribution which is a larger operation. I’d have no problem waiting a while for the parts, given that I saved some money, but it certainly would be nice if they listed the part as out of stock as slackner mentions. Especially when you have so many shipping options, I mean I would have picked a split shipment option if I had known.
ASIHome did split the shipment and the lock/thermostat is on the way, but I am concerned that they’ll try and charge me again for shipping to ship the Vera when it arrives. I am currently trying to get an answer to this, but I feel confident they will make me happy.
I just received the first shipment today…one day before FedEx’s estimation…which is always good
A very nice surprise inside the box was a free mug. I thought this was great…I love free mugs.
I’m completely satisfied with ASIHome…very good customer service…and definitely the best price for me. I understand about the backorder process and I’d purchase from ASIHome again.
