The issue seems to be a “curl timeout”, whatever that is.
I know the camera is working because I can connect to it via other software, and the URL http://192.168.1.198/_gCVimage.jpg (yes, fixed IP and the address is correct)
does in fact show a correct image in my web browser, albeit slowly.
I go through the Add Device, IP Cam dialog and when it gets to the point where it should show the image, nothing happens.
There doesn’t seem to be any response about the timeout issue. Help would be appreciated, or I have to buy a new cam!
I must have typed something wrong, because when I tried it again, the cam DID configure and showed me the image. I clicked Add and then found it in Devices/Cameras. So far, so good. But when clicked on View, it could not get an image (timeout?. I went into Advanced Settings, and changed the timeout. Still didn’t work.
I noticed that there was no “Controlled Via” setting, so I changed it to the Generic IP in the pulldown. A warning popped up that it might brick my Vera, but being brave today I clicked OK anyhow. Guess what, it didn’t brick, but I lost all settings and had to restore.
But now, I can’t get back to where I was and get the Cam configured at all. I must have done something right, but not sure what I did. One thing I did notice: When I set the device as Generic IP it puts in an image URL that is the wrong IP address. I corrected that and put in the correct URL, but when it doesn’t work and I hit Cancel it goes back to the previous page but with the wrong IP! So perhaps there is something not right there.
I am learning a lot here, but just by experimenting!
OK, I have the cam configuration going pretty well. Yes, there was a wrong IP issue as above, but I did get around that and got the device configured, and it shows in Devices/Cameras OK.
Now to get a reliable image. I changed the timeout value in Advanced, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. The problem is intermittent - sometimes I see an image, sometimes I don’t.
But all the time I am trying, I have an IE window open and the cam is connected to my network and running fine, so its not a cam or cable problem.
Edit: I have been running it for a while, and I only get an image about once every 5 minutes. And, again, I am sure there is no network or physical problem, as I have a monitor running in another IE page, and it is running just fine.
More info. If I unplug the cam and then try to view, I get a very quick “device not responding” message on the Vera Mobile app. So there is some communications going on when enabled, just slow and intermittent.
Intermittent network problems are the hardest to debug.
There is a wealth of variety in HTTP clients and servers. If it works in IE, you can’t necessarily rule out the possibility that the camera’s HTTP server is not to spec.
If I were in your situation, I’d be engaging the network packet sniffer and seeing at what point of the HTTP handshake the connection is getting dropped.
