TrickTV

I presume this is the OEM product that MCV was working on? Is this actually a Samsung product, or somebody else’s?

The Extender is pretty cheap and if its running a cut down MiOS engine then it would be pretty useful!

Interesting… log into cp.mios.com and then go to:

Let me start the conspiracy theory … now we know what they have been working on besides the next release … LOL

There is no conspiracy its true

Can this be true? Look at those prices. Doesn’t make sense.

Revenue stream - subscription-based services a la SchlageLinc.

does this (TrickTV) means that MCV will have a stable firmware release coming up soon? It all looks good until VERA starts acting up and weird things happen. (Just image you press the channel up button to change the channel on your TV and VERA decides to raise the temperature on your ZWave thermostat … LoL)

As I say, great idea, I just hope that MCV is really thinking about a stable firmware release before TrickTV comes to live.

Thats why its called TrickTV… you thought you were getting a channel change, and it tricked you by upping the temp instead!

The biggest issue they have never had a perfect firmware running and now they are putting time into something new. It just shows that the people that already have their products are put aside with a lot of issues. Just don’t buy anything new they have to offer until it’s all worked out. That may put a flame under their butts to make spend time where it should be spent. Make a customer happy and they will spread the word. Piss them off and they will spread it even more.

Their argument is that with the amount of revenue (remember this is an OEM thing I think) that this will allow them to hire extra developers for the platform and give it a wider audience aside from us demanding geeks!

There was a bit of a pause on development because of this, but I’m happy to say that in the last month MCV has put a lot of effort into fixing a lot of bugs and should hopefully enable them to release something more formal soon.

amazing, cheaper thatn sq blaster. i just dont like the $19 subscription. i will rather wait until some of you guys have tried this new gizmos.

The proof is in the pudding… MCV has clearly shown indifference to the vera community, both in these boards and in the quality of and frequency of software updates.

I think a lot of people would be happy to see a single bug fixed that has been reported in the last six months. Mantis only exposes their lack of delivery.

I’ll gladly eat my words when any of these promised bug fixes show up, in the meantime I’ll enjoy watching TV without MCV screwing it up. Change channel? reboot. Recall last channel? add beta=1 and take a fix. Want your TV to recognize December? You are clearly asking too much. TV won’t turn on? Enter a support ticket and wait for them to not dial in to fix.

I started creating a remote using the flash based remote builder at tricktv.mios.com but quit before I caused any damage.

I can’t find where they advertise a monthly fee, because on the samsung site it said it was free and the phone apps would be free. Couple that with cheaply priced Z-Wave components, $169 door locks, $39 HA box (Vera), $19 IR blaster and it starts sounding like a decent deal. The minute you say monthly fee is when I take my money and run though.

They don’t show any real world usage videos and my guess is that it won’t be nearly as responsive or put together as the video shows. The UI looks nothing like what they were showing at CEDIA this year. Maybe thats where they joined up with TrickTV.

One problem with a solution that “does it all” is that it usually doesn’t do it “all” very well. Have to give them props for the marketing and professional demos though, quite an improvement.

Mixed feelings about this. I want my Vera to work better than it does and I want MCV to at least acknowledge some of our issues…buuuuuut…I’ve always thought Vera was a bit cheap and figured the other shoe was going to drop. I’m willing to “upgrade” if they show any signs of actually supporting the new product. If not, well MCV can go &$%@ them selves and I’ll find a new z-wave server, the new Fios thing coming down the pike looks good enough for me.

The" December" issue is fixed… this was a trivial bug really compared to other bugs like the reboots etc that some people have been experiencing (mostly users with large Zwave networks etc). In trying to fix some of these things, the memory footprint decreased for some users enough so as to cause serious problems with core Zwave functions; those issues had to fixed before they could get back on track.

I’m glad to say that for the most part it looks for the first time in a while that there is a better release than 1.1.1047, which in fact was quite good for some people including myself. It would not have been worthwhile for MCV to release something more detrimental. Hopefully once they’ve done a bit more testing with it, then they can release it to everyone.

I will also add that my AV setup is heavily dependent on Vera for control through multiple plugins, and this part has always been very dependable!

Well, after reading into it some more, it’s a $19/year fee.
And it seems the $39 box is the “zwave adapter” and runs MIOS, and is upgradable to MIOS Pro for an additional $39.

It sounds awesome, but what I want to know, is all that going to be necessary for those of us running Vera’s.

Initial test:
I downloaded the free iTunes app for this, my Vera’s show up in the menu after creating an account and logging in. I select my V2.
Selecting scenes, new, I get “Mios Server is busy” This is what’s displaying on my V2. So it seems whatever BS is going on with Vera is transferring through. I’ve tried for an hour and no go, I think the size of my V2 system is an issue for it. Just as it is for Vera, since basically this connects to Vera.
Selecting V1 which only has a few devices it connects.

Screenshots attached.

JOD.

Since CES is less than a week away we will see what shows up there and hopefully get some answers to all the questions

Happens with mine also. Looks like you can either create an account or log in with your normal MiOS account.

Looks like you got further than mine as I don’t even get any lights showing.
