Trane vs Wayne_dalton WDTC-20 thermostat ??

Hi,

I found 2 z-wave thermostats in Amazon (Wayne and Trane). Anyone found a good comparison between them? Any recommendation?

Wayne is cheaper, but has bad review about its flimpsy case in Amazon and Trane has no review.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Please read this wiki page: http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Supported_Hardware#Thermostat_Devices

FYI the trane appears to be a rebranded version of the rcs-tz43 that is cheaper but no remote sensors. I own a trane and it just works and im glad a spent the extra money.

the WDTC-20 does feel like its cheap, but then it is cheap.

I’ve had one for a couple of months now and it seems to work well

The Wayne_Dalton is also difficult to get the front part plug in the base. When you put the wires on the base the little U clip that accepts the pin from the front unit get twisted and the front part has trouble getting in. Once in then everything is fine.

When connecting the wires, make a loop at the end so that when it gets screwed in it does twist the U clip underneath …

I bought the Wayne-Dalton and while the plastic is thin it isn’t too thin… I had no problem (a little fussing getting the cover on) but it does exactly what I wanted… I had nice set-back thermostats on all my A/C units (3 of them) but keeping them programmed and not “holding” temp at some nice cool temp (my kids claim to never touch them :stuck_out_tongue: ) and centralizing the management of them (basically a dumb unit at the edge) makes tons of sense. I want to eliminate all my programmable things and bring them into Vera… (Pool, Sprinkler, Thermostats etc…)

I’ve had a WDTC-20 for a few months as well, and so far, so good.
The issue, as mentioned above, is indeed that the main unit doesn’t snap onto the base all that easily. With a little fiddling, it does attach. I used a llttle velcro to allay my fears that it wouldn’t stay put.
It works quite nicely with Vera for control and display. I’m happy with it.
Oh, one other oddity is that from time to time, the display will stay lit on the thermostat for some extra period of time (like an hour)…not sure why.

Thank you all so much for the info. My other question is that how long does the battery last in these Z-wave thermostat?

Do we have to change them every couple months?

Thanks

I have had my WDTC’s for a year and have not had to replace the batteries yet.
