Would appreciate some advice, if you have a moment…
My 3-yr old son loves to turn his room light on log after he is supposed to be asleep (ie- after 7pm). I’d like to use a zwave switch to ‘lock’ him out of turning on the light for a period every night (say 7pm to 6:30am). Is this possible?
Alternately, I could just use notifications to alert me to his misbehavings, but I’d rather that he learn that the light won’t work than learn that his father will come running!
You can’t disable the switch … but you can have it auto turn off right away; well almost right away.
The problem is that if something goes wrong and you need to enter his room … the light will go off when you turn on the lights as well. The best is to have a notifier like vera alert text to speech on an old android phone that just tells him light’s out or dad’s coming and he will … what ever you feel is appropriate
Vera Alerts does not need to be connected to a Wireless provider … just the wifi.
I use older Android phones for all kinds of neat things like remote controls for the house …
You could build in an extra switch “before” the real switch with no real button on it.
I use that way in order to switch off my blinds with a scene when the door is open and i dont want the blinds be able to go down anymore.
SanderL - can you expand on what you mean by an “extra switch”?
I’ve got the same problem with my 6-year old twins getting up at 3 (or 5 or 6…) in the morning and playing. When I was using X10, I accomplished this by having a scene controller (I think) that would talk to ActiveHome, check the time and if appropriate, send a command to a wired-in module in the light fixture. I can’t seem to find a wired module that would go in a light fixture - anyone know of any?
Just getting started on Vera - I’ve installed about 10 switches and a lock so far.
Would it be possible to use an Evolve LFM-20 wired into the light fixture and to replace the wall-mounted switch with an Evolve LTM-5? There would no longer be direct control of the light fixture, but instead it would be controlled by a z-wave command sent from the switch to Vera to the fixture.
Presumably (and I don’t know how to do this) you could create something within Vera to sense when the LTM-5 switch is pushed and depending on what time it is, send the command to the LFM-20 to turn on. Not sure how instantaneous this would be - anyone know?
