Thermostat with remote temperature

I’m new to Vera and Z-Wave, I’m hoping it can solve one of our problems.

Our home is two stories and we have trouble keeping the upstairs at a consistent temperature (the thermostat is downstairs). At night I’d like the thermostat to adjust the heating/cooling based on the temperature upstairs in our bedroom. For example, can I place an HSM100 in our room and temporarily override the temperature reading on a z-wave thermostat with the the temperature output of the HSM100?

Thanks.

You can create a scene to lower or raise the set point of the thermostat and then create an event from HSM100 with “Temperature goes above” or Temperature goes below"

Yes that would be possible, but it would be clunky. For example, if the temp downstairs is 72 and temp upstairs is 65, I’d need to raise the set point downstairs to 73 to get the heater to kick in. When the temp downstairs raises to 73 and it’s still only 67 upstairs I raise the set point downstairs again to 74.

The ideal solution would be to just override what the thermostat thinks the ambient temperature is. The next best would be the ability to turn the heater/AC on/off directly, irrespective of the ambient temperature and set point. Is this possible with Z-wave thermostats?

I would have thought that you should be able to experiment and just raise the set point much higher downstairs until your upstairs reaches the desired target!?

Good point. I’ll try it out when I get the needed hardware and let you know how it goes.
