Thermostat added as "Generic Z-Wave Device" on Vera Plus lacks feature set

Because my new VeraPlus unit does not offer the tried-and-true Wayne-Dalton WDTC-20 z-wave thermostat as a known device, I had to add it manually as a “Generic Z-Wave Device” per the customary method.

Once done, however, I notice that none of the thermostat’s innate features appear accessible from, or “known to”, my Vera unit. Instead, all I see is a big “On/Off” switch (see attached screenshot), which makes no sense.

Back in the day, my Vera 1 (no longer operable) had no trouble whatsoever detecting and acknowledging the full suite of thermostat features via Z-Wave.

Any guidance here? Or should I email support once again (I never seem to get answers from them!).

Did you reload Vera after inclusion?

Did you exclude, include, and reload after the first apparent failure?

If you’ve already done both of these, then the next step would be to change the device type to match thermostats:
Device_Type: urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:HVAC_ZoneThermostat:1
Device_File: D_HVAC_ZoneThermostat1.xml

There’s always technical support.

(a) Don’t know what “reload” means in the context of a VeraPlus (browser window? restart Vera by cycling power?)
(b) Trying exclude/include process now, but Wizard not overly responsive; can’t tell if working (will keep trying).
(c) Note that “Delete” Wizard page contains a typo “that” should be “than” in the following line:

“… light on the Vera should start to blink faster that usual and then slow down.”

RESULTS

Method 1

Unpairing did not work. I tried four times to perform an outright “Delete Device” > “DELETE”. I receive standard “SUCCESS - Delete device command sent successfully. The device should disappear from the interface in about a minute.” message, yet the errant device not only continues to appear among my DEVICES> page, it continues to “operate” by allowing me to click ON/OFF followed by a “SUCCESS! Transmit was OK” response.

Method 2

I went ahead and tried to Pair the thermostat anew, speculating that VeraPlus might detect it as another device. That seems to have generated some success, insofar as the old “Thermostat” device disappeared, and VeraPlus began configuring for the new instance of “Thermostat” … unfortunately, it showed up as a light switch, just like before.

Method 3

I made the two modifications you suggested (thanks!) for these two fields:

Device_Type: urn:schemas-upnp-org:device:HVAC_ZoneThermostat:1
Device_File: D_HVAC_ZoneThermostat1.xml

This caused the thermostat device to disappear from my list of Devices> … yup, time for me to submit a tech support request! (Done)

Reload in this case means reloading the Vera engine. Sorry that I wasn’t clear. They’ve moved the button somewhere under the settings menu. It use to be a prominent feature of the older UIs. Power cycling Vera is equally effective.

Continuing to pile incorrect guesses on top of each other isn’t really a troubleshooting/fixing strategy and posting every incorrect action was just annoying after the second or third time.

I think tech support is your best bet at this time.

Perhaps due to my various attempts to rectify, or something Tech Support did invisibly without informing me, the Thermostat device in question has reappeared along with all its requisite features in VeraPlus.

I’m more inclined to believe this came about as a result of implementing the two edits you suggested above, so THANK YOU for that lead!

Your solution probley came from the reload of the engine. The reload of the engine probley came from one of the well placed features that vera installed which lets it easily crash and restart everyday. ;D
