The "lighter" side of Home Automation :-)

All,

I had a humorous episode occur with my Vera last night and thought it might give everyone a chuckle and lighten your day.

My wife is on the mainland (California) and a week ago I walked her though setting up ImperiHome for Z-Wave control on her Note II.

Fast forward to last night. She is flying home today (09/30/15). Being a bachelor for 2 months meant I had a lot to do around the house. While I am cleaning up I decided to make some changes to my Z-wave network. Shortly after making the changes lights started randomly turning on and off in the house and I assumed it was the changes I made. A sure way to give your wife “The Home Automation blues” is to have lights randomly turning on and off at all times of the day and night. So of course I immediately set about trying to trace down the problem. I swapped out bulbs, excluded and re-included devices etc but it still kept happening. It was about to drive me nuts and I finally concluded my Vera was possessed :o and unplugged it. The problem immediately stopped.

The next time I grabbed my phone I noticed two things 1) I had accidentally put the ringer on mute and 2) I had 7 missed calls from my wife. When I didn’t answer she checked the cameras and seeing that I wasn’t lying at the bottom of the stairs with a broken neck and when I still wasn’t answering my phone she decided to start randomly turning lights on/off, on/off, on/off in a bid to get my attention. :-[ :-[

There was nothing wrong with my Vera, it was working perfectly, even halfway across the Pacific Ocean.

I like to periodically surprise my wife and kids by making the Sonos Talk via TTS from work. They don’t find it as amusing as I do though. 8)

I have been warned that if I mess with the lighting while I am away the whole lot is coming out.

That is hilarious!

@ Slartibartfast : That is why my primary and backup vera are in undisclosed locations in our home.

Imagine if my frustrated kids could get their hands on her (vera speaks to the kids at homework time and bedtime, turns off the nonsense at dinner time , etc) , they would tear her heart out in a nanosecond :o

I like it. Automated nagging. Perhaps I should do this and replace the wife.

Only joking!

I like putting the awning out when my wife is lying on the patio sunbathing, and watch her jump via the camera from work…
I find it hilarious (so do my colleagues), she doesn’t… ;D

Sounds familiar.
