Table Top Enclosure

I don’t believe this has been posted here before, but I wanted to share my solution for table top dimmers and scene controllers. There is an Insteon product that I have been using for awhile now to put dimmers and scene controllers on table tops for convenience and local table lamp control. It also ends up being an attractive solution and rates very high with the other spouse.

Here is a link to the product:

It is model 2402WH and is available for US $17.99. I have attached pictures of a GE dimmer control and an Enerwave SC7 controller installed in the enclosure. It is a tight squeeze to get everything installed, especially for the GE dimmer control because you need to get two cords to exit through the strain relief. It helps if you use a small round file to enlarge the strain reliief. It also helps to solder and heat shrink the connections inside the enclosure. Small wire nuts are possible, but it is a really tight fit. For the dimmer I just use an old 6 foot extension cord that has the molded receptacle on the end and cut the cord. The enclosure comes with a power cord that you can use for the scene controller.

Adding additional photos.

GE/Jasco dimmer installed.

And what do you control with your GE dimmer? A table lamp?

Zwaver,

Yes I use it to control table lamps next to the bed and in the living room.

It is a cool find. It’s a much easier option than installing an in-wall dimmer and switch in a table lamp.

Thanks for sharing.

ah… very clever. where were you two years ago? Went with minimotes to solve local lamp control.
