Whether you’re an early adopter of betaware, or staunch latecomer who prefers to upgrade only after all the kinks have been worked out, let’s find out which firmware revisions Vera owners prefer.

Based on the emerging 2:1 ratio between Luup adopters and pre-Luup users like me, and judging from how few serious complaints or complications have been reported after an upgrade to 862, I’m growing ever closer to “the big day.”

I also know that post-upgrade there’s still some stuff to do:

The reason not many voted yet is the wrong choice of forums - you posted this poll in the Luup specific forum, while many who hasn’t yet converted don’t read it…

You’re missing an important option: Ready to upgrade, but waiting till Luup release get stable.

Is that you, 325xi? Because you’ve described me almost perfectly!!

Actually, “itchin’ and hankerin’ to upgrade, but don’t wanna have regrets” is a more apt description of my mood … but now I hear there’s another firmware to be pushed in the next week or two, so I’m going to continue holding out.

Well, it’s 50% me

I think you should let the poll go for a while longer. This is not a good representation of the users yet.

Smart idea, Z. Consider it immortal, as originally promised. I woke up impatient this morning. ::slight_smile:

(bump) for the latest crop of Vera newcomers… please vote!

I’m not upgrading either, I’m running 616. I’m still waiting for a dongle exchange to a stable firmware in the dongle. It’s been close to 3 weeks now, I hope they get in soon. Right now I’m stuck with no Zwave control as I dismantled my network as I await an exchange. I;m also very hesitant to upgrade at any given time because an upgrade blows away my firewall rules, Auto USB stick mounting, WOL, and sftp server. I think it preserves dyndns though.

I’ll need to change my vote. I upgraded this morning and “had issues” but at least a few of my devices were functioning. As the day wore on things got worse, and now I have nothing but endlessly spinning blue cogs on all my devices. I’ll be rolling back to 616 tomorrow. I’ve only been working on this a few days, but nothing has gone smoothly, and my frustration is building. I’ll spend a few more hours reading the wiki and forum tomorrow, but if it doesn’t come together, I’ll quit and return or sell off the devices to try to recoup some of my $1000 investment. I run a software company and consider myself pretty adept technologically, but maybe you have to be a developer to make this system work.

CMRancho, your plight and that of others after upgrading to Luup leaves me wondering whether MCV’s own in-house test suite is robust or sufficient enough to predict the viability of each new firmware release.

After all, if my belief is correct – that the brains at MCV really do care and have all the necessary “skillz” (programming- and troubleshooting-wise) – then how could they fail to identify so many specific issues that arose with 843 and 862?

I know they don’t intend for us to be canaries in their mine, but heck, even Google left the “beta” tag on GMail for over four years! Perhaps it was too soon to remove Vera’s… and though I sincerely hope one day MCV will hire a decent marketing firm, I think the overall results of this poll suggest they’d better hold off on that as well.

Not that anyone else really cares, but since I made such a big to-do about upgrading…

I FINALLY UPGRADED TO THE LUUP FIRMWARE! [But the poll won’t let me change my answer again to reflect this…]

And am now using the (speedy and responsive) 1.0.879, scheduled for formal release over the next 48 hours.

While upgrading, I scared myself when the browser (Internet Explorer 7) stopped responding to Vera for a VERY long time after clicking ‘DOWNLOAD’. So long, in fact, that I power-cycled Vera (I know, risky) whose power light was solid (operational) both before and after. Somehow I managed to get back to Vera’s dashboard through her local IP address, and found Vera was still using 1.0.616. Phew…

The second attempt was a success (this time, using Firefox 3.5.2), and Vera now seems much faster. All my original configuration - simple as it was - remains intact.

The only “glitches” so far: (a) For some unknown reason, about 2 minutes after the upgrade was complete and Vera ostensibly was polling devices for the first time, my (only) lamp turned on full brightness. Odd. I immediately was able to turn it ‘Off’ using Vera’s Dashboard. (b) As documented by someone else on the Forum, and confirmed by MCV, the ‘Floorplan’ feature does allow me to upload a JPG graphic, but will only display a blank (white) box when I click ‘Show Floorplan’. I know, this feature has been deprecated officially, but I already miss it, and look forward to something better in the future.

Otherwise, so far, so good. The only other task I’ve tried - with immediate success - was removing a User Code from my Schlage deadbolt.
