I’m brand new to vera and dsc. I’ve installed my own DSC1832 and have it functioning like I want it. I just installed a Vera3 this week and have started to play around with it. I’ve got my DSC connected to the vera and I can “see” all the window/door contacts as well as the smoke detectors. I also have a receptacle with a lamp plugged into it.
I’d like to be able to turn that lamp on when it’s nighttime and the alarm is armed in “away” mode but not when it’s armed in stay mode. When I setup a trigger, it gives the option of Armed detailed state which it looks like I have to use. But when I use the next drop down box, it doesn’t give me an away option. I’ve tried all the options that look right but I can’t get the system to recognize away vs. stay mode and either activate the light or not. Everything I’ve tried activates the light.
At least on my DSC 1832, There are two different relevant options under “Armed Detail State” System is Armed and System is Armed Stay. System is armed is triggered when arming away, and system is armed stay is triggered when arming stay. From the name, it looks like the first one (System is Armed) should be triggered for both, but in my testing that is not the case - it’s only triggered for armed away.
That’s not what I get on my DSC1864 - I always get System is Armed regardless of which state I arm it with (Stay or Away). What is your interface card? I use EnvisaLink 3 with Ethernet connection and I’m suspecting it can’t differentiate between Stay and Away modes…
Well, that’s not the problem - I also use an envisalink 3. Dunno. I am on UI7, with version 0.40 of the DSC plugin. Vera Lite. I’ve attached screen shots of the triggers portion of my two scene (arm stay and arm away), but it is fairly basic - really the only thing is what you already know, that is making sure it’s the “armed detailed state” that is selected, and not the armed state. Let me know if I can provide any other information that would help.
Hmm, the only other difference is I’m still using UI5 instead of UI7… The DSC plugin version is also 0.40. Did you have any other configurations inside DSC? Do you use the dedicated hot keys on the panel to arm in Stay or Away mode?
Lots of configuration in the DSC system, obviously, but nothing I can think of that would be relevant to how it reports arming vs arming stay - that’s all pretty standard. I’ve used both the dedicated hot keys on the panel as well as key fobs to arm the system. I also want to say that I had it working under UI5, but a) the behavior of the plugin should be the same, and b) I only just brought the system fully online, so I didn’t really do much with it while still on UI5.
So, I’ve done more testing and reading. I still see no difference between arming in Away and arming in Stay modes. Even Eyez-On service provided by EnvisaLink 3 maker, shows them identical. I’m using “Stay” and “Away” hot keys on the panel for arming.
When looking at the Alarm Panel device → Alarm Partition tab in UI5, I see the following in both cases:
Ok, I figured out what my problem is. Apparently, DSC is so “smart” that if there are no Interior zones (type 05) then Stay Arm automatically becomes Away Arm.
While trying it out, I temporarily marked one zone as Interior/05 and it ended up reporting Stay Arm properly:
Unfortunately, I don’t have any Motion detectors (yet) connected to DSC to designate them as Interior/05, so they can be bypassed in Stay mode - all my zones now are perimeter door/windows and fire detector
And honestly, I want the Stay mode to really be No Entry Delay mode (*9), but unfortunately it requires the code to be entered all the time…

Interesting - did not know that. Any reason not to simply designate an unused zone as Interior? Slap the appropriate EOL resistor across the zone so the system thinks everything is kosher, and call it good. Course, this doesn’t help with the No Entry Delay mode arming.
I have Envisalink 2DS version 1.11.135 and when I try to send a “Stay” arming command, the module react like a Stay (because there is no keypad beeps on exit delay), but at the end, it become Full Armed. ???
Also, when I go directly to the Envisalink Web page, there is no button to do a Stay Arming… ??? I’m pretty sure that this option was available on previous firmware versions. 8) (see the attachment)
I really don’t like to have no control on the firmware updates of this module… This company update the firmware without notice and without offering any options and control to their clients !
