Static IP and SSH access (Version 1.6.641)

Hi all
I just go my new Veralite (version : 1.6.641) but I am not able to set up a static IP. If I go to SETUP–>Net & Wi-fi I have two choices
-Automatically configure (recommended)
-Manually configure (advanced)
If I select ?Manually configure? and then I click Save and Apply?..Nothing happens. What should I do to configure a static IP?

My second question is about SSH.
What is the default username and password for the Veralite.
Thanks in advance

After you choose manually configure, you then need to configure it. Select Static IP from the drop down and fill out the appropriate Internet / WAN fields. Then save. See the manual, here.

You could also leave it at automatic and create a DHCP reservation for your Vera on your router.

See the Wiki for SSH access.

Hi Z-wave
Thanks for you response. I was able to get the root password for the vera lite

I still confuse about the static IP. When “Manually configured” is selected Nothing appears in my screen. Please take a look to my attachment you will see what I meant

Thanks

What browser are you using? Try Mozilla or Chrome. If you already are using one of these, clear the cache.

or use DCHP reservation on your router. It’s preferred anyway. You would’t want your router to lease out Vera’s IP while it was off.

I’m having the same issue on my Vera Lite configuration. I’m using Chrome (Version 33.0.1750.146 ) and IE (version 11.0.9600.16518). When I click on Manually Configured, nothing drops down below. I’ve spent forever trying to figure out this issue!

Another way to do this is to just assigne your device an IP out of your router’s DHCP range. I do use static DHCP, but I’m not sure all consumer grade routers have it (maybe they do today, it’s been a while since I bought a consumer grade one). For instance, my current router had a fit for a while when adding static DHCP, Which was around the time I added the Vera. So for my Vera, I just set it an IP outside the DHCP range. I currently only allow 50 Ips to go out via DHCP between .101 and .150. Even my static DHCP entries fall outside this range to make sure that somehow DHCP doesn’t accidentally assign it to another device (though it should technically never do that).

Most DHCP servers will ping the selected IP before handing it out. If it gets a response, it will pick a different IP.

Relying on a sometimes implemented feature, such as this, is not a proper way to manage IP addresses. Furthermore, as @Bulldoglowell stated, if the device is off, the ping will fail and the DHCP server will issue an address.

The proper way to manage static IPs is to create an exclusion from the DHCP pool and assign the IP manually. An alternative method, as suggested, is to allow the Vera to request a DHCP address and have a reservation, based on the Vera’s MAC address, on your DHCP server.

I’m also new to Veralite and do not see the drop-down to assign static ip. But on my Netgear router, I reserved the IP address for the Veralite MAC address so it accomplished the same goal.

I followed the link for the SSH but it is broken. So what is the default login & password? Please write it out instead of a link.

This is a Problem as reported in Mantis:

Even setting this via ssh is not viable as it will reset to automatically on restart.

Can’t find the root password?

Every vera has a different root password. Vera 2 and Vera 3 have them written on the bottom of the units. Vera Lite’s do not and require that you follow the instructions posted in the above link.

Wonderful. Thank you. I can ssh to the Veralite now. I don’t know what I’m going to do with this yet.

I tried the instructions posted here: http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Logon_Vera_SSH#Can.27t_find_the_root_password.3F

Neither the root password (printed on sticker on bottom (word##word) nor the tech support password (‘bbbbbb’ in the string aaaaa-bbbbbb from the ‘tech support access code’ string works.

I tried username ‘root’ + password ‘word##word’ (from sticker
I tried username ‘remote’ + password ‘bbbbbb’ after enabling tech support.

Ideas? I really do not want to factory reset my Vera!

If you pull down a copy of a backup file from MiOS, it is in the cmh folder in a file called cmh.conf

Have a look at these two posts.

Here is a way to get access to the STATIC IP settings in the Setup → Net & Wifi menu.

It turns out that IF you had first selected a Static IP setting under UI5 (Version 1.5.622 firmware) and then upgraded to UI6 (Version 1.6.641 firmware), the static IP settings would remain operational under UI6. It took a while, but I just got done downgrading to the older firmware, configuring Vera with a static IP address, and then upgrading back to 1.6.641. Make sure you make a backup file before you do this.

Here’s a link to the instructions on downgrading firmware: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,22390.msg165419.html#msg165419

For others, easier option is raise a support ticket as there is a fix which they can apply. This will restore functionality in UI6 and there will be no need to downgrade.
