Thank for the PM…I’m not allowed to PM =(. I have not purchased anything yet. I need a wireless option since I do not have power running to the windows. I was looking at the RTS motors because they seem to be the easiest option?
The Z-Wave motors look nice but they only seem to have tubular motors. I need to install a motor on a Hunter Douglas 2" wood blind. I’m just looking to have the motor open and close the blinds not lift them. Is the RTS motor not the best option or can you use a tubular motor for this?
You mentioned a single channel RTS interface to a RS232 relay board…can you give me part numbers?
Can one of you post the information on the Z-Wave motors mentioned above. I have been looking all over for Z-Wave controlled roller shade motors (native not Z-Wave to RTS). DC powered ideally
thanks a lot guys for sharing the part numbers. this was extremely useful.
one question I’m trying to answer is whether I need TWO battery packs to implement tilt AND raise. we have 4 wood blinds on the front of the house that my wife asked how much would it cost to have those motorized, too, now that she’s getting on board with my efforts to automate the house.
Also, how long do the batteries last in the battery tube?

My Vera3/ZRTSI and the associated scenes have proven to be one of the most dependable, trouble-free components of my entire HA system. I hope you can get yours working.

My setup has now operated for almost a year, as programmed, 90+% of the time, so I would have to put it in the same category.
I would now like to somehow work the Sunis that I have into the mix. Has anyone used it for just one shade from a grouping and how hard was it to match to the particular channel?

I’m considering this route… still a good idea?
I’m considering two options… Lutron or Shades that integrate Somfy motors (RTS - they don’t offer the Zwave version).
Anything I should consider?
Are they quiet?
Can you save one or more presets for open/closed height for different scenes?
The Sunis sun sensor should pair with any number of RTS motors within range, consider the Sunis as another RTS transmitter and motors can typically store 12 transmitter IDs (so a handheld remote, wall keypad, URTSI or ZRTSI, and the Sunis can all be paired to the motor in the motor memory). You can’t get the Sunis to trigger something in Vera unless there is a way using the RFXCOM Transceiver.

Somfy motors are getting more and more quiet, but it still depends on the motor type you use which depends on the window covering type you are trying to motorize. But quiet is all relative, I could mount a Lutron motor to a hollow wall and make it noisy. For roller shades, we like using zwavemotors.com motors since they are quiet and have integrated Z-Wave so you get feedback and can “dim” to position. Somfy RTS typically only offers the one intermediate position, the My position that you record with the remote and it is stored in the motor memory. So it is possible to have several motors controlled together with different My positions, which is good if windows are different height but you want the shades to line up.
In beginning figuring out how to achieve motorized window coverings and integration into Vera, I start with what type of window covering you want. This could be dictated by mounting conditions or style preferences or blackout needs. Then I think about motor type and functionality required, which could be decided by AC vs DC vs battery power. Somfy offers a 5year warranty and we know of AC motors running 15-20 years, they are the market leader selling more than 100 million motors worldwide. Lutron offers a pro-rated warranty so you don’t get full coverage like Somfy and we know of Lutron Motors that didn’t last 5 years. You can always go with Asian no-name motors like Rollertrol uses, but some Asian motors have increased in quality but in turn have also increased in price. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the details.
I’m only looking at cellular shades with battery operated motors. The reason I’m concerned about noise level is that in the same room there will be nine (9) 30"w x 83" tall windows… so though 1 or 2 motors running is likely not an issue with any brand, 9 at the same time could be quite annoying
The one thing I like about the Lutron is the integrated battery pack… I’m concerned about the depth of the window wall (only a 2x4 wall). I cant put the batter packs anywhere except in the window space itself so it will need to ‘hide’ behind the shade header.
Any experiences you can share given these specifics?
I am considering getting the Somfy ZRTSI for solar roller blinds. (There will be 4).
Will this work with UI5?
What programming can I do? Set times of the day? Set % of close or open?
Thanks,
Victor
I wish I had found this thread sooner. I went with the ZRTSI as opposed to the new zwave system I wanted just because availability was very limited and the Somfy zwave motors are apparently only available on shades and not on blinds and I need a mix of both.
My local Lowes also will not have them on for sale for another month. Somehow got the ZRTSI controller for very cheap but was not aware of the limitations. Does the “Stop” command work on them? The Monoprice curtain controllers do.
Just added Somfy ZRTSI to my Vera 3. I have Solar shades/screens on my patio. I only need up/down/stop. The app also has open and close. They go down when I press up and up when I press down??? Is there a way to reverse these commands and remove the not needed open/close info?
