Solution for Wired Doorbell

Hi

I have a wired doorbell (which i want to keep) as I don’t want to have to keep buying expensive D batteries (i’ve had a number of wireless ones and they eat batteries!)

I was wondering if there was a z-wave device that i could fit inline (ie between the button and the bell, 2 wire system) that would notify Vera. ideally i would then run a notification on the event the button is pressed.

You can use the fibaro universal sensor for this perfectly.

If you have an older style (non electronic) door chime … Some folks have place the Aeon door sensor … minus the magnet … next to the door bell … The electromagnetic pulse that chimes the bell also triggers the door sensor. (The door sensor shows an inverted status … but that’s OK). Otherwise you will need something like a DPST relay to toggle when you press the button … and have 1 pole of the relay trip the chime, and the other pole trip the door sensor. (If you get a DPDT relay you can get Normal Logic on the door status).

You can hook up a fibaro FGK101 with 2 wires and set a trigger for it.

NOTE: The requirement was to maintain the existing door chime!

Without being an electrical engineer … hooking the same push button switch across a door chime and the fibaro door sensor in parallel is dangerous … could cause the stronger device to let the smoke out of the weaker device … If you let the smoke out … it won’t work :slight_smile:

I wasn’t clear and you’re right Richard. The idea was to modify the push button to get a double action in one push; one action , is what the push button is doing now , and the second action is activating the fibaro sensor. Can be with the small magnet or bringing 2 wires together, shouldn’t be too difficult to make… just a bit of DIY.
