My apologies if this should fall within another topic group however this appeared the most relevant.
I would like to know or discuss if anyone has requested the ability to have SNMP installed and allow for interface configuration for the public and private communities. From the research that I’ve conducted, I feel this is yet another option that MIOS/VERA2 could provide and have a leg up on other options.
I use ZABBIX heavily at work at at home and allowing this as an ability first to monitor the vera unit and then further, creating vendor specific MIB’s for the data that is available on each device I feel would open a whole host of doors for monitoring and management.
USE CASE: I have recently installed a TRANE thermostat, the vera 2 unit is obviously polling data, this along with other temperature units I plan to purchase could provide a good list of information. I would then create a new host and template in ZABBIX, then request from the vera2 via SNMP the latest values which would be graphed in zabbix to show the temperature fluxuations occuring throughout the home. In addition, if I see other events such as door/window scensors and such, ZABBIX could further be used as the notification engine thus freeing time from further configuration within vera2 if they don’t wish to be as elaborate as what may be provided in a monitoring and management system. Just like I can now see my network devices (FW, SWITCH, WIRELESS) network graphs at any level within my home as well as the monitoring of all of my computer systems, this would allow me to see the temperature changes, device triggers, lights on/off, all at my control and depending how I set up ZABBIX or some other monitoring system. This then is fully historical just like all of my other data collection points.
Again, if this has been discussed previously, my apologies however I feel as if this would be a huge win and further allow many of the other open source monitoring and management systems to work hand in hand with the vera 2 solution.
AFAIK there is no way to get a list of all UPnP services a device supports (UPnP lacks introspection …), so I have to map MCV’s device category to a list of corresponding UPnP services. I’ll add support for energy metering to switches and dimmers.
