Using UI4 with 1245 firmware.
Text messages sent to my phone are the same as the messages sent to the email address. They are fairly large and generate 3 SMS messages. In the past on older UI2 with older firmware it was just 1 SMS message.
Example.
Event:Shed door open 1 Device:Shed Door Room:Shed Date:2011-05-03 13:25:54 SN:00000

If just the 1’st line could be transmitted to the phone it would be great.
I am not on an unlimited SMS plan so these extra 2 messages per event can easily throw me over my limit over the course of a month.
Its not firmware dependent, but related to recent changes in notification server.
I second this request and have already asked MCV about this, due to the fact I use my work cell for notifications, and I don’t want to rock the boat if the charges get to high!
As part of the changes they made recently, they introduced a bug where the limit (set by you) would be ignored. This unfortunately got discovered when one of my Kwickset locks started to malfunction, and sent out thousands of lock notifications while I was away from home a couple of weeks back 
The notifications were coming every couple of mins, and eventually when we got hold of MCV, they had to purge another 400 or so messages that were stacked up!
Needless to say, my wife who does not have an unlimited plan, was not impressed not only because of the cost (actually me who pays the bill), but also because using the iPhone for anything else was almost impossible, due to the way the iPhone notifies you!
The good news, is that have allegedly fixed the issue.
Any word on this? I disabled SMS messages for now because they are so long.

No word yet and since MCV is busy working on UI5 and reworking some parts of the firmware, i doubt if this will be changed any time soon.
You could consider other means of notification like Prowl, Veralert (improved recently) or email.
Seriously you could customize the message you get by following these steps :-X
- Open Vera Home
- Find your Event
- Change your event name
I’m bit confused: Why not turn off text messages! Isn’t vera sending emails? At lease I’m getting the emails…
