Smarteye NC532W (outdoor) up and running (images attached)

Just got my new Smarteye camera up and running. Its the outdoor version of one mentioned in other threads. See: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?topic=4216.0 Nice unit!.. They emailed vera plubins to me and the camera configured in Vera flawlessly. Keep in mind that the plugin will show PTZ options even though the outdoor model is not a PTZ.

When I went to order an outdoor camera, this model was not available yet. I emailed customer support and asked if they had an outdoor model with onboard flash. They said they could have me one in a few weeks. I now see its up as a regular product on their website. Very easy to deal with!

I bought this more expensive model as I wanted the standalone options that onboard flash gives me so it can be used outside of Vera as well. Video and still images are pretty good, Night vision is great as well.

Standalone options are great as well. Setup was pretty easy, the manual was an Engrish translation but was still very helpful, you just had to use your imagination in how some words were used. I’ll probably order their indoor PTZ next.

What’s the picture quality like? Can you post a sample (nothing that could be used in a bad way though), do you know if it works with WebCamXP? Been thinking about building a DVR using WebCamXP but want it directly accessible from Vera too in case it goes down for some reason.

Here is a native shot from browser taken at dusk…

The cool thing about this camera is the alarm options. I can define areas within the view that if movement is detected it can snap images and email them to me, or upload them to an external ftp server. Its also got external alarm inputs to trigger it as well.

Here is the same shot from within vera

Will take some more shots tonight to show night vision quality.

Two questions…

 1. I can’t tell from website, does this camera support Power-over-Ethernet? Or does it require a separate power wire/line?

 2. Are you using it wired or wireless in your application?

Thanks.

No Power over ethernet. Its got about a 10" cable that blows out into a dongle/octopus you can plug ethernet there, alarm contacts, power, audio etc. When I go to mount it permanently I will probably put like a 4x4x4 carlon plastic box on the wall, notch the box to take the wire, put the ‘ocotpus’ into the box, bring out other connections (power) through the wall into the back of the box. Don’t ask me if its ‘up to code’ ::slight_smile: though. Typical power block like a laptop power supply. Not the ‘wall wart’ kind.

A better picture of the wiring is in the manual…here:

I am using wireless. Camera is about 30 feet from router which is in the basement.

I plugged it in to wired Ethernet for initial setup and then switched to wireless.

Its been up since Friday night and seems to be rock solid on the wifi connection.

If it does start to flake, I will let you know.

I just ordered the indoor PTZ model today from IP Cam Central (via Amazon.com) They have already shipped it FedEx so I should have it by Thursday.

That looks pretty decent, and from the looks of it, are rather versatile when it comes to accessing them.

Can anyone send me the required plugin? I’m running a Vera Lite with UI5. My camera is the NC532W. thanks!

Have you tried contacting support at http://www.ipcam-central.com/ . I have been dealing with them for a few years now, they have been very helpful in the past.

Besides having a good selection of ip cameras they are vera aware and have been active from time to time in these forums.
